Corruption, Bullying and Harassment is widespread in Fresno County's Department of Social Services and other County Departments.  The Department is run like a fascist dictatorship with cut-throat people on the top, kicking down and promoting their pets who are basically corporate whores.  Contracts are gained fraudulently while subordinates are told to look the other way or lose their job.  Managers pass the buck and blame everyone but themselves when things go wrong, which is frequently.  Working for the County is a pain because of the evil, intolerant, backstabbing atmosphere.  You have to put up, suck up, or leave.  It is like a medieval work environment.  I've seen them harass workers until they quit in shame.  They usually highlight the negative issues and overlook all the positive issues in order to make employees look like bad on their evaluations.  Fresno is not able to hold onto talent and now I know why.  Fresno was voted one of the most uneducated cities in the nation and the county with the highest concentration of poverty.  Smart people leave this corrupt town and I can't blame them.  It's become a magnet for crime and gangs.  At least they see an opportunity here.  Gangs also exist within County Departments, but their called cliques and they sabotage others they don't like.  Stay clear of working for the Department of Social Services unless you desperately need a job as a last resort and are ready to sell your soul to devil or constantly pray for your co-workers that are prostituting their way up the company ladder.  What has this world come to?  Maybe the federal government can start cracking down on Fresno County's corruption.

Dead On!

The discription of this County dept is dead on; 6 years later and nothing has changed. Cronyism is alive and well, bullying at an all time high. Some have tried to change things but as usual, the retaliation begins. We were informed this week this dept is exempt from transparency and not obligated to confer or follow union MOU as to emploee rights.

Stagnation

I heard that this department is stagnant and requires an overhaul at the state level.  Fresno is so backwards.  My heart goes out to the people that have to work there.

Cesspool City

CNBC ranked Fresno, CA as one of the worst places to live in the United States.  I can't believe the unemployment and foreclosure rate there!  It might be a decaying city like Flint, Michigan, which is also ranked on CNBC's list.  They also noted that the pollution rates are outrageous.  I wouldn't work or move there if you paid me!  It looks like DSS should be run by the State in order to clear up those issues.  Please visit Miami when you have a chance and get away from that cesspool.  God bless you!

Fresno is 2nd in the nation for worst water quality

I'm surprised that Fresno beat New York City as a toxic leader, but I shouldn't be surprised because it looks like the farmers are pouring all of their pesticides and fertilizers in the drinking water.  The Central Valley farmers do not care about health risks to consumers.  The United Nations is going to be visiting Tulare County to find out why people are spending over 10% of their income on water to stay safe.  I have family in Fresno and I always invite them to move to NYC.  There is so much more opportunity here.

Fresno worst U.S. city for business. Cowtown went downhill

We were going to open a manufacturing plant in Fresno last year but the farmers ran us out of town. Apparently there are 4-5 farmers that control most of Fresno's economy. It's a bad place to do business. This article says it all.

MarketWatch: Fresno worst U.S. city for business

Written by Business Journal staff

Fresno ranked dead last as the 102nd best U.S. city for business, according to a 2010 MarketWatch annual survey.

The report had two factors for the rankings the company score and the economy score.

The company score was based on the concentration of businesses within the metro area. The economy score took into consideration unemployment, job growth, population growth, personal income and local GDP.

Fresno had the third-highest unemployment rate of the cities ranked at 15.2%, which was compounded by the city growing faster than the national mean.

On a positive note, the study reported the personal income growth increased in Fresno. Local GDP grew over the past four years to among the top half of the cities measured.

The state as a whole didnt fare well in the survey. Six California cities were listed in the bottom 10 No. 93 Bakersfield, No. 96 Riverside, No. 97 Sacramento, No. 99 Modesto, No. 101 Stockton and No. 102 Fresno.

Californias poor performance was partially due to its 12.4% unemployment rate, which is the third worst of any state in the union.

If youre looking at unemployment and job growth, it was not a good year for California, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy Stephen Levy told MarketWatch.

San Francisco was the only California city in the top third, at No. 33. Other notable Golden State cities include No. 37 San Diego, No. 39 San Jose and No. 61 Los Angeles.

I am in total agreement!

I've had my own experiences with this department and it is an extremely large waste of taxpayer dollars. I'm sure there are good-willed and motivated people working within the Dept., but unfortunately they are few and way to far between.

One of my relatives used to work there in the 80's.  Obviously not much as changed.  Fresno is one of the most corrupt towns in California and that is one of the reasons why most of the people I know from there moved out.  The Fresno Police Department also has a bad reputation.  They have been known to kill innocent people and then go on television and paint themselves as victims so they can get away with the "itchy finger" epidemic within their department.  Fresno is one of the worst cow-towns in the nation.
