I own a frigidaire refrigerator purchased november 2000 in july 2004 i came home to a mess food spoiled etc i am on social security disability so money is tight i figured being less than five years old warrenty would repair unit so i called 800 number was refered to A@E factory repair the service man came looked a refrigerator said was a defrost timer not covered under warrenty he wanted 160.00 to change it this was financially impossible for me to do at this time geting paid once a month hurts while i felt i would deal with it later having already lost most my food

he informed me i owned him 63.60 for the call anyway i feel this is a RIPOFF on the part of frigidaire as basically they are having customers finance their service network as i am not a service teck i have no way of knowing what was wrong with unit to determine if warrenty covered repair so you must call their authorized repair center you are locked into their rates for repair and are charged for their diagonosis so to put salt in wound i later found out he was wrong with what he said it needed the defrost thermostat not the defrost timer was bad i think from what i have read here is a common thread with these appliance manufacturers having subcontracters handle all their warrenty repairs

so they dont have to deal with customers directly and by charging them for warrenty diagonosis saves them big money good for corporate america bad for consumers frigidaire when i contacted them didnt even know their own phone number giving me an 800 number that rang into some real estate office they really dont care and i felt like they just blew me off as long as it didnt cost them anything i would recomend anyone looking into purchasing a new refrigerator look at other brands and ask how they handle cust service personally i am not going to buy any of their products if i can help it i bought a whirlpool refrigerator in 1974 never missed a beat i finally gave it away last year should have kept it i guess, never got to know their cust service didnt need it i wonder if we are really progressing
