I am writing as a crime victim, one of many in Harris County, who have never seen any justice, to highlight Gabe Gelb and Emerson Church.  Gabe Gelb and the Emerson’s funded a new political model called drug court that places drug addict offenders over crime victims.  It is part of the “moral initiative of his church.”  This model gives offenders arrested for charges such as theft, prostitution, breaking and entering, check fraud, and credit card fraud rehab and a cleared record, while those that commit the very same crimes and who are not addicts get a cleared record and rehab.  Separate, and, certainly not equal.

The victims have no say in this placement into drug court.  Despite being aware of corruption and conflicts in this drug court, Gabe and the Emerson continue to support drug addicts, prostitutes, thiefs, and other offenders over crime victims.  In my case, crime victims have been threatened to be shut up, and are out $100,000+ in monies.  My case was filed as a hate crime.  The good, good Christian churches aren’t helping our crime victims.  This is how I was treated after taking this girl in, threatening her dealers, and paying for her rehab, while her parent ran a rehab associated with out court while being a drug addict at the same time.  I was victimized by the very person I tried to help, and then, needed to tolerate a conflicted and corrupt trial.

In my particular case, the heroin addicted daughter of a man that founded a rehab, Teen and Family Services at Chapelwood and ran it while himself a drug addict, went on a year long crime spree.  This crime spree left one man living with his mother, a second the unknowing getaway in one of her thefts, and in my case, I had over $10,000 in items stolen from me, as well as my car stolen and driven through the parking gate of my condo.  The good, good, good Christians, with their moral initiative, are still trying to hush this up.

At our trial, one victim was threatened and thrown out of the courtroom by the ex-drug addict, preacher of drug church Chapelwood.  The drug court administrator was in the court, seeking special favors for the girl, per an internal affairs investigation.  That investigation promised action against Chapelwood, a “reassessment of the entire drug church model,” and a reassessment of the relationship of the drug court with surrounding churches.  That never occurred.  It was covered up.

A civil case to reclaim damages was in front of another judge from the good Chapelwood church.  A month after the investigation, Harris County named an ex-alcoholic judge from Chapelwood to be the new drug court judge.  Bill Henderson, tasked to look into this for Judge Emmett, is yet another proud Chapelwood member, with a resume including a bankruptcy fraud arrest, an obstruction of justice conviction, and anther conviction for taking his car back from an impound yard.  Seems like Chapelwood doesn’t really think US and Texas laws apply to its members.

Despite $100,000+ in damages unpaid, Gabe Gelb priority is to help fund drug court, and items such as sunglasses and braces, in fundraisers for drug addicts.  Meanwhile, research show that on average, over 94% of damages caused by drug offenders to victims is never remunerated.  Perhaps Gabe and the Emerson’s would like to raise money for drug crime victims instead?

In the 5 years since the mandatory introduction of drug courts in TX largest counties, drug arrests jumped 49.5%, and over 60% in the counties that added drug courts, while significantly less in the counties that did not.  Meanwhile, organizations such as the Brookings Institute, Harvard, Yale, UPenn, Cambridge, the Scottish Justice Ministry, and others, have come out with research significantly opposed to drug court.  Despite the Harris County Drug Court Foundation claiming drug courts save money, Brookings found that over 86% of US drug courts cost more to operate than they save.  The UK and Scottish Justice Ministries made similar findings.

I’d like to ask Emerson Church and Gabe Gelb, publically, not to support hate crimes, not to support corruption, not to support drug addicts over crime victims, and not to support Christian cover-ups.  Instead, support crime victims, heros, and those with credibility.
