Gamache & Myers Said they filed on 1/21/08 but have not been servied....yet Crestwood ,St Louis Missouri
I received a letter saying they are trying to collect a debt for Palisades Collection LLC for "$1,656.58 PLUS INTEREST". They said I had 30 days to dispute it. I called and said I did and then sent them a letter (which they then said they never got) so I faxed it to them. I stated that I did not feel I owed this debt but would try to pay them $10 per month because they said my name was on it and I owed it no matter what and it would go on my credit report if not paid.
They took my first $10 payment and then sent a letter basically saying, gee thanks but you have 5 days to pay this debt. When I called they never responded. I then sent a letter saying I want proof of this debt. They never responded.
Now they sent a letter saying they filed on 1/21/08 (Monday) and a date should be set within 30 days but to call if I wanted to talk about this. So I called and asked them if this was their respone to my request for proof of this debt. They said no, this just their process and they never got a request for proof. So the collector looked in their computer and said it was originally a Household Bank credit card opened on 9/2003 and gave the account number. I said okay but what about the application and transaction report I asked for. She said "your talking about an account that has been sold 2-3 times, we do not have that detailed of information". She then said they are not collecting this for Palisades they are working for Ncan (this is the FIRST I have heard of this company). I asked her again how they got this account and she said Household sold it to Palisades, Palisades sold it to Ncan and Ncan sent it to Gamache & Myers for collection. Mind you, I have never received ANY letters from Palisades OR Ncan.
Can I still send a letter asking for proof, certified or do I have to wait until the date has been set and I am served? They said at this point they HAVE filed it in court, it just is not showing up yet and they have not assigned an attorney to it yet?!?

This is exactly what NOT to do when a debt collector contacts you (make arrangements for payment)....If they take you to court...the debt has been validated as real and legitimate by making this payment
Make them validate the debt..

I was just curious what ever happened with your issue. Gamache & Myers are hounding me too. Was wondering if their bark is as big as their bite. Please let me know. I appreciate it. thanks
