i uesed to play an online video game called Lineage 2, i created and played and leveled a character. i had personal issues and decided to stop playing the game. I sold the character to an online website, Gamepal.com, for $107, this was about 6-9 months ago. well 6 days ago i recieved an email from the Gamepal.com, that said " This is a warning email to inform you we are in the process of filing a credit card dispute on your payment sent to you along with processing a collections claim using the registration and iovation information (we record your information when you submit your account). After our recent investigation, we have solid evidence proving that you reset the password to the account you sold us. We offer 3 options to resolve this issue. "

First off, i have not played this game since the sale of this character and they have a collection agency that has contacted me telling me that i owe them over $1300, and all of these clames they make are false. i have looked on the internet and found people that they have become victome of this scam. please let me know who i can contact to get help or what i can do.

Same happened to me

Hey guys, the exact same thing happened to me. Here is a list of what I have done so far to hopefully prevent this from going on to my credit report.

First off, I called Equifax, and the other major credit bureau in Canada and gave them my side of the story and asked what I could do. After I told them my side of the story, they put a fraud alert note on my account. However they mentioned this would not 100% prevent any fraudulent information going against my credit. The next thing I did was write up a complaint on the Better Business Bureau website, when I last checked there were about 76 total complains against GamePal.com - I think 30 of them were resolved???

The next thing I did was sent certified mail to Kross, Lieberman & Stone stating the following:

Re: Collection Issue With GamePal.com
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is being sent to you in response to a phone call I received on January 30, 2009. Be advised that this is not a refusal to pay, but a notice sent pursuant to The Fair Trading Act and the Collection and Debt Repayment Practices Regulation of Alberta.
Under The Fair Trading Act (RSA 2000 cF 2 s111;2005 c9 s35), no person may carry on the activities of a collection agency unless the person is the holder of a collection agency license issued under this Act. I have already checked with Service Alberta and they have no record of your company (Kross, Lieberman & Stone) having a collection agency license in the province of Alberta.
This is not a request for verification or proof of my mailing address, but a request for validation made pursuant to the above named Title and Section. I respectfully request that your offices provide me with valid evidence that I have any legal obligation to pay you. Be aware that this charge will be aggressively defended until such evidence is provided that will indicate otherwise.
Please provide me with the following:
- Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe.

- Any statements or information that the creditor provided to your explaining why and how I owe the money that you say I owe. The credibility of the statements that the original creditor in which you are collecting for is also in question, I have done a Better Business Bureau check on GamePal.com and have found numerous complaints of them providing false information. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well to dispute this claim.

- Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe.

- Prove the statue of limitations has not expired.

- Identify the original creditor.

- Show me that you are licensed to collect in my province (Alberta)

- Provide me with your license numbers and registered agent.

At this time I will also inform you that if your offices have reported invalid information to any of the 2 major Credit Bureau's (Equifax or Trans Union) this action might constitute fraud under both Federal and Provincial Laws. Due to this fact, if any negative mark is found on any of my credit reports by your company or the company that you represent I will not hesitate in bringing legal action against you for the following:
Violation of the Fair Trading Act
Defamation of Character
If your offices are able to provide the proper documentation as requested in the following Declaration, I will require at least 30 days to investigate this information and during such time all collection activity must cease and desist.
Also during this validation period, if any action is taken which could be considered detrimental to any of my credit reports, I will consult with my legal counsel for suit. This includes any listing any information to a credit reporting repository that could be inaccurate or invalidated or verifying an account as accurate when in fact there is no provided proof that it is.
If your offices fail to respond to this validation request within 30 days from the date of your receipt, all references to this account must be deleted and completely removed from my credit file and a copy of such deletion request shall be sent to me immediately.
I would also like to request, in writing, that no telephone contact be made by your offices to my home or to my place of employment. If your offices attempt telephone communication with me, including but not limited to computer generated calls and calls or correspondence sent to or with any third parties, it will be considered harassment and I will have no choice but to file suit. All future communications with me MUST be done in writing and sent to the address noted in this letter by USPS.
It would be advisable that you assure that your records are in order before I am forced to take legal action. This is an attempt to correct your records, any information obtained shall be used for that purpose.
Best Regards,

"

Keep in mind guys, that I live up in Canada and when I did some further research into Kross, Lieberman and Stone - they do not even have a collection agency license to proceed with trying to collect from me. I have not heard back from them since sending this, but I'm really hoping that this will persuade Kross, Lieberman and Stone to check the actually evidense that GamePal.com has on me before proceeding with their collection.

Hope this helps you guys out a bit.

Cheers,

Brodie

I had gamepal's collections agency "Kross, Lieberman & Stone" contact me recently claiming I owe them $1500. Suprisingly enough, this is the first I heard of them. I told them they are harassing me and I had looked them up on the internet and I know they are a bunch of scammers.

However, I have a lot going on right now and really don't want to have this hanging over my head, so I used the Blizzard account recovery tool to regain control of my account - and am prepared to hand it over. Unfortunately, their live chat is down and they do not respond to emails.

I don't want to hand the account over without a written agreement that this will end their "collections claim".

While I have seen TONS of posts about other people being scammed in the same way - I have not seen ANYONE post with an actual result. Has anyone paid them? Has anyone had a collections charge put on their credit? It seems like this whole this is just a bunch of talk with no actions being taken by anyone.

Posts with people who have actually resolved this one way or another would be greatly appreciated.

The economy is in a bad state atm and I'm sure gamepal are desperate to make some money. Anyhow, I got the same mail yesterday stating that I owe gamepal $524.00. I contacted them via email and I was told to consult their collection agency, I spoke to a rep for around 2mins before she hung up on me and said she would hear me talk bad about their client because they are innocent. When I asked them what is the proof? She responded that gamepal contact plaync about why they lost control of the account and they stated I did it. That's the proof, no times, no dates no anything except he said this or that. By this standard of proof anyone can make a credit claim against someone.

Let me break this down logically.

1. Gamepal is a illegal account buyer and seller site. I say its illegal because you go against the company eula by selling/buying accounts and currency.

2. A illegal rep from gamepal calls a game company asking why they lost control of the account. And note, they offer no proof that they are the genuine owner.

3. Game company tells them private and classified information about who the person is and who done it.

Anyone, with common sense will know that this doesn't add up. Blizzard, Plaync or any mmo company does not disclose any information about a account unless you can prove you are indeed the original owner. Basically, if you don't have any information such as cdkeys or original credit card information. Then they give you no such information about a account.

Another thing that is comical is that they claimed to call plaync to get this information. If they would of really done this, providing no information of being the account holder then it would more than likely get banned quick because its obvious that they are account sellers.

What am I going to do about this? Nothing, I don't care. And whats interesting is, you can't talk to gamepal or their collection agency. They just bounce you back and forth in between. Its unprofessional, but no surprise since both companies probably are ran out the basement of their homes.

My suggestion is to file fraud against gamepal, write the BBB etc. There is more than enough evidence that stacks against them. If you google gamepal+fraud you get a ton of pages showing how shady their company is. Its best for a shady company such as them to be shutdown.
