I purchased a product called Mosquito Barrier based on claims the company has on their website (mosquitobarrier.com). The product is made from garlic and the following claims are on the website:

"just one spraying will keep mosquitoes, ticks and fleas out of your yard and away from your home, 24 hours a day for nearly a month".

"Garlic has a natural sulfur which repels insects, including mosquitoes...)

"The odor of it (garlic) chases them out of the area and they stay away - for as long as they can detect the odor"

(They can detect the garlic extract for much longer periods of time and will stay away from the sprayed area for up to a month and more."

These type of claims convinced me that this product would repel mosquitoes from my area of concern (the roof over a covered patio). I had mosquitoes on the underside of the roof over the patio in the morning and thought, based on the websites claims, this would keep them away. I sprayed the yard, trees, patio walls, and the underside of the roof over patio heavily per the products instructions. The next morning I had the same amount of mosquitoes on the patio roof (the surface I sprayed heavily the day prior) as I had prior to using their product.

I contacted the companies customer service and was told that it would take several applications for the product to work (twice the first month and once a month thereafter). This was different from the "spray once" claim made on their website.
