Complaint Review: GATEWAY CHEVROLET

We too are victims of Gateway's promise to "SIGN AND DRIVE". We had some credit issues also and were told they weren't anything that couldn't be worked out. However, I had wanted to finance the car on my own. My Husband has his own business and his income is not easily verifable. We were told that would not be a problem.

All I needed was for him to co-sign for me. After 2 days and may hours we were also told the 2005 Impala (they chose for me) was all financed and ready to go. We stated tht we did not want to have to get a call telling us the financing did not go thru and we would have to bring the car back. We were assured that would not happen, Yeah right. Well we received several calls the following Monday from not only the salesman (John), but also one of theyoung ladies in finance. We were told they could not get the car financed. We said ok, we would bring it down as soon as I got home from work.

In a timeframe of 4 hours and 5 calls and being assured there was no financing on this vehicle we showed up with the car. At that time John went and got his manager who proceeded to badger and talk to the two of us as though we were scum.

We were told the car was indeed financed as of an hour ago and it wasn't his fault that we were stupid enough to come down with out a call. We were getting even more angry and we decided to leave and they yelled as we were walking out to take the piece of junk with us or they would have it towed to our house.

On Thursday (three days later) I had about enough of the harrassment and humiliation. I called GMAC Headquarters. I was out on a three way call to Eric Green the General Manager of Gateway. He also acted so concerned about this situation and promised me a call back. I too never recieved that call, well from Eric Green anyway. About two hours after talking to Mr. Green, my work and cell phone started to ring with calls from John our so called salesman. He told us the car was financed the way I had originally wanted, by myself all I needed to do was come down and sign a couple more pieces of paper. I stood my ground and I told him "NO". Now we are on Friday and he (John) is still calling me and I am still telling him "NO".

I told him I had the car there on Monday he should have kept it then. I suggested (very strongly) he come with a porter to get the car. He replied if he did that it would go on my credit report as a repossession. Well, how can it be a repo if there was never any financing to start with??? At this point my husband and I knew we had to make sure all "ASSETS" were covered when taking this car back.

We called our area police, he came out took a report, took the salesman cell number (do you believe he was stupid enough to give it to me), looked the car over on our behalf, looked over "The Paperwork" (not worth the paper it is printed on).

We have taken steps to cover our "ASSETS". The car will be returned. I will be happy to see it gone. I do however have some advice of those watching infomercials at night - STAY AWAY FROM GATEWAY CHEVROLET - THEY WILL RAPE YOU AND YOU WILL NEVER EVEN GET KISSED. THIS IS ONE EXPERIENCE I WOULD NOT EVEN SEND MY WORST ENEMY ON.
