Gateway Laptop bought 9-3-2005, the opening and closing of the screen (lid) the screen now broken on 12-12-2005 I took it to Best Buys where it was bought and there Geek squad even said that there was not outside damage to the case. Laptop was sitting on dining table for about 7-8hours with not one person to bother or use it and when it was opened that evening the screen was cracked and spintered. Gateway refused to replace it and Best Buy did so as well, however, the gentleman that I spoke to at gateway told me that it was designed to be very flexible, I told him that something that was a design flaw was not my problem or my 13 year childs either that I have a Dell and that poor laptop as had everything done to it and it still works great (windows 98). I feel that if a screen is designed to be that flexible that it is a design flaw that a screen should last longer than from Sept to Dec. with normal use and the fact the there is NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE to the outside of the laptop (lid) that this should have been covered under the service agreement!!!!!!!!!!! I have since learned that Circut City does have a Physical Damage policy that you can buy. So stay away from GATEWAY AND BEST BUY>

Gateway knows about faulty lids

I, too, purchased a Gateway laptop around July 2005. A couple of months later (after minimal use), the lid cracked. When I called Gateway I was told there was a known problem with the lids and they would replace it.

I was sent a shipping box and Gateway arranged for DHL to pick up the laptop. I had the laptop back within 2 weeks and the lid has been fine since. Never paid a dime.

Call Gateway and try to get a supervisor. They definitely had a problem with laptop lids back around the time you bought yours. If that does not work, try one of the computing magazines. They often help in situations like this.
