I am also a victim of the Gateway scam. I purchased my Gateway over a year ago. I made my payments regularly until I lost my job with FedEx. I contacted Gateway to let them know my situation as to why I was running late. They didnt care. Each month I was billed an additional $25 - $50 more. I fell behind, of course. Then after communicating to them and sending them what I could, I was turned over to a collection agency--ES Solutions. This is when the trouble really began. I contacted them regarding the "collection notice" to make a settlement agreement. My original purchase was $1200--they were to collect over $1400--a year later..... I was told by an E S Solutions rep that they would settle the account for $1100 as long as it was paid by Feb. 28. I agreed. And if I couldnt make this $1100 payment, they would set me up for monthly payments- to be paid withing 3 months. I came up with the $1100 and called them to let them know I had the $ and wanted to confirm our agreement.
I was then told this was not the agreement, they wanted $1300 and they would not accept anything less. Was told by a supervisor at ES: "I WANT TO SUE YOU,GO AHEAD AND STOP YOUR PAYMENT!" This is where I stand! An outrage! A NIGHTMARE!!
