I might suggest you try as-aware from Lavasoft. It gets rid of spyware on your computer and works really well. It is also free!! I also use the free version of ZoneAlarm which is a firewall to keep these pricks out of your computer files.

Dear Debra;

Gator is a 'free' downloadable program from the internet, that is supposed to help you automatically fill in forms and remember all your passwords. Along with providing you with this 'service', it is also sends very specific information about you and your internet usage habbits back to the 'owners' of this program. Then they intentionally target you with very specific ads, pop up and pop under windows, ads that match your interests, and things that you have researched or purchased on the internet. They also "cover" the ads already paid for by other companies on a website, with ones of their own, more targeted to your interests. This is why they are being sued. Go to a search engine, and enter 'Gator' and 'lawsuit', and you'll get all kinds of articles on Gator. Once this program is installed on your computer, it is very difficult to remove, (the designers made sure that you couldn't get rid of them easily!) and it does make computers not function properly. Here is a website that lists Gator, and MANY other Ad/Spy ware programs that you must check your computer for. http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm
This site tells you how to get these awful little programs off your PC, how to check for new adware programs, and it offers free programs to rid your machine of these privacy-invading nuisances for you. Explore the whole website to get all the information, you'll learn allot. I did, and I had 4 different Ad/Spy ware programs on my PC! I I got rid of them, using this site. Good luck!
