At one time in 2004 I sold a few things on gunbroker.com. There really wasn't any problem with the exception of nothing at all happening to a guy who stiffed me for a couple of hundred dollars. I let that go since it was a long time ago. Recently (today) I was attempting to list a Trilux scope for an AR15 since any assult rifle parts can't be listed on Ebay anymore. Anyway, when I logged into my account, I found it to be kind of suspended. I could purchase or bid on anything but could not sell anything. As a note, my feedback was 100% positive as a seller. Anyway, I checked my account and found that my credit card needed updated since the one I had there was from 2004. I updated the card and was promptly charged $1 which went through. I then tried to sell the scope again and got some statement that my account was being checked for fraud and that the problem should be fixed in an hour or so. Now, being frustrated and not really liking being screwed around, I wanted to just close the account. Turns out, it's impossible to close an account at gunbroker! Once you're there, you're stuck paying the fee until they kick you off for some rule violation. It's not the money (I think I can come up with $12 a year), it's the principle! I don't like being forced to pay if I no longer want to use their services. Now I have to call my card company and block payment to those scam artists. I'm wondering how many people are unknowingly paying a dollar a month to be "members" of the "I'm f-ing stupid club" like me. Geeeze, I just wanted to sell the scope for a couple of bucks and give gunbroker.com their share. If they had a phone number or an e-mail address that you can send questions or comments to....I'd thank them for screwing up my day and wasting my time. Unless you plan to do business with gunbroker.com for the rest of your life....I wouldn't recommend visiting that site! By the way, the dollar a month fee isn't listed anywhere before you give them your credit card number!

Interesting concept DPHall...

I've read DPHall's rebuttal as to the $1.00 being a "credit" not a credit card "charge".

Interesting concept, DPHall. I recieved a response from your customer service that my card was invalid due to a wrong zip code. How is it then, that I have a $3.00 "credit" showing on my account. Charged to my credit card on an account that has an "INVALID credit card"? As for the support area, where might one find the information as to how to cancel the account? I've been there and just don't see it. I am interested in your explanation.

It is a $1 Credit, not a Bill

The following FAQ on our Website as well as the users monthly statement clearly show that he has a $1 Credit balance,  and that we do not bill users a monthly fee.

Why am I being charged a dollar ($1.00) every month?

(last updated on 12/12/2007)

The $1.00 balance appearing on your monthly statement is a credit balance not a monthly fee. When you place your credit card information on file with us we submit a $1.00 charge to your card to verify that the information provided is correct. We credit this $1.00 charge to your GunBroker.com account to offset that charge. It will continue to show up as a credit balance until you list an item with additional fees or sell an item or close your account. For more info please see your detailed statement by clicking here

Additionally users may close their account simply by clicking the contact us link on any page.
