I am an elementary teacher in a rural area. This is my first year teaching. I needed professional work clothes and shopped at Banana Republic Inc. and decided to open a Banana Republic Credit Card through GE Capital Bank.
A few months later, a charge appeared on my credit card statement for a purchase made in a Meijer store in Bowling Green, Ohio (over 9 hours away!!) This purchase was documented as taking place at 9:40 p.m. and the identity thief must have shopped for quite a while to rack up about $500!!--I work everyday until 4:15 and there is no way it would have been physically possible for me to make these charges. The customer service people were hard to deal with--and the "investigation" they conducted was minimal at best--The so called investigators must think I'm really Samantha from BeWitched or that I have some super human powers.

 Nonetheless, save yourself a headache and do NOT open a Banana Republic Credit Card. They are not secure, are hard to work with (I called customer service numerous times and wrote letters without any response or action on their part) and are overall crooks.

When I stated below that there was not a valid investigation, I meant the investigation was unsatisfactory to me--I had anticipated more would be investigated such as my location, signature, etc.

Also, when I stated "they are insecure" I merely meant my Banana Republic credit card number/magnetic strip (whatever made it so a fraudulent charge could be incurred)--I have never had such experiences with other credit cards. From my experience, it does not seem as if enough measures are taken by this company to protect their issued cards/ numbers from identity thieves.

And, it would be physically IMPOSSIBLE for me to incur these charges at Meijer Inc. due to the time frame and distance from the time and place of purchase.
