I mailed my payment in full to GE Capital Cons Card Company for a 1-year no payment, no interest loan on a Sony TV special. I took the payment to the post office on the 26th of December for a payment that was due by the 5th (ample time for mail delivery).

To my surprise, I received a new statement on the evening of January 12th showing a balance of $706.91 for finance charges.

On January 13, 2003, when calling Debra (operator #51100) and Susie (operator #51092) to report that this had to be an accounting delay or error on their part, they said they understood, but there was nothing they could do about it. When I asked to talk to a supervisor or for an address of someone to get this cleared up they stated that, "it's unfortunate, but their is nothing you can do about it, sorry." I requested proof of postmark and they said they posted it the day they got it. BULL!

There is no way they couldn't have received it in time and why couldn't anyone speak to me or why couldn't I write a dispute to individual?

I believe that this may be some kind of fraud. Maybe they sat on the check (holidays or overload) or what if the post office lost it or delayed it. For goodness sakes, I was paying it in FULL!

I am a single mom and scrapped together the money to pay this to avoid the charges and now I'm faced with having to claim bankruptcy, because there is no way I can come up with an extra $706.91 to pay off.

HELP!
