GE Capital Cons Cardco ripoff unfair and dishonest late fees finance charges Louisville Kentucky
My husband and I bought my wedding band at a jewelers and they offered us a 10 month interest free promotional rate. After receiving the first statement from GE CAPITAL CONS CARDCO, they set up the accout as 3 month interest free. Took us several phone calls to even get that straightened out. Not a good start.
Our second statement never made it to us, so on our next statement, it charged a late fee and threatened to take away our promo rate. When we spoke to a CSR and explained the situation, initially they were cooperative and agreed to take the late fee away and instructed us to make double payment to make the account current. Sent double payment as instructed, but got posted late again. We noticed that even when we sent out payments way before the due date, the payments are never posted in time, thus charging us the late fees.
On our next statement, the promo rate was gone and a finance charge of $145 was added. Spoke to a rep who said the promo rate was not going to be reinstated and the finance charge will remain. Asked to speak to a manager. She put me on hold and checked back twice and said she'd have someone call me back. I said I'd rather not and would like to get this matter resolved now and requested to hold longer.
Decided this account has been too troublesome (we've had to call every month for one issue or another) and said we'd payoff the full balance if they'd take away the finance charge. She said she'd only take 1/2 off! She put me on hold again then didn't return to the phone at all. Kept the phone on speaker just to test if/when the rep would return...After an hour(!) I called from a different line and spoke to a different rep. (which was exactly what I was trying to avoid). Had to re-explain the whole situation and finally spoke to a "manager".
He was rude and defiant. His immediate response, without even listening to my explanation, was that he was not going to reinstate the promo rate and that he was not going to take off the finance charge. Tried to explain we didn't want the promo rate, just the finance charge taken away. He refused. Tried to explain how we didn't receive the statement and that a previous rep said our account would be current when we send the double payment. Would not listen.
I understand we are responsible for sending in monthly payments, but we relied on the monthly statements to remind us. We simply wanted them to take the finance charge off so we can payoff the balance and close the account. We'd simply rather not deal with them.
Now there's still 3 weeks before payment is due, so we should hurry and mail it in before we are charged another late fee!
