I purchased the extended warranty policy with Circuit City to cover any problems that my laptop may have. I am a 2nd year law student and my laptop is of vital importance to me. I began having problems with my laptop after a year and a half. I sent the computer in to be fixed and it was returned to me in about 2 weeks. The computer lasted only two months, and not surprisingly broke again right before finals.

I sent it in again and it was fixed for the same problems with the LCD screen. When it was returned back to me it lasted for only a week and broke down again. Again, I sent it in and it was the same problem. I received it back again and it broke again after a month. After this time the lemon policy kicked in.

So my options were to either compensate me with a laptop worth a quarter of what I paid for my laptop or recieve a pro-rated amount for my laptop. If I had chosen the laptop that they wanted to give to me it was worth $550, and was 5 years older than my laptop.

I obviously chose the pro-rated amount which turned out to be $630. When I finally received the check it was in the form of a circuit city gift card. I called the corporate headquarters and demanded a check so that I would be able to purchase from another store, and not deal with them anymore. After days of arguing on this matter they finally caved.

Please don't let them fool you into thinking that you can't get a check, and you have to get the circuit city gift card it is not true. I have since bought a laptop with Best Buy and the service that I have received has been a great improvement.

However, I lost a great amount of money. What bothers me the most is the fact that GE Zurich told me they didn't want to fix my computer anymore it wasn't worth it to them. Well, it would have saved me about $1,000 but I guess their customers don't matter.
