Complaint Review: Geeks Home and Office

Geeks Home and Office See all those other unpaid techs? Think it must have been a fluke? Think again. Internet, Internet

I was hired for a job by Geeks Home and Office on 3/27/2012. I had never worked for their company before and was promised I would be paid within 3 business days via a 3rd party, TecDirect. It has now been 12 business days, 17 total days later, and I'm still unpaid. They haven't even acknowledged the work as being done on the TecDirect website. I finally spoke with another Geeks employee, Josh, who promised I would be paid by today. This is the third promise I'd received as to a payment date. I then searched the internet and noticed quite a few complaints from various PC techs over the years complaining about the same issue: they just didn't get paid for services received, or if they did it was months later. Lo and behold, the work order still isn't closed and I'm still unpaid. Big surprise there.

TecDirect, while promising to guarantee payment, actually doesn't do anything. I called and left them a message 5 days after I performed the work, just requesting information on how to start the mediation process in case Geeks Home and Office didn't pay me. No one called me back so I e-mailed them. Again, TecDirect didn't respond. I have now called and e-mailed TecDirect three times respectively without receiving any response. So don't think this third party is going to help protect you: they're worse than Geeks Home and Office. At least Geeks lied about payment dates and supposed technical difficulties. TecDirect just flat out ignores you.

Geeks Home and Office NEVER paid me!

They didn't pay me late -- they have NEVER paid me for work I completed July 30th, 2012.  It is November 11th as I post this.  They are outright THIEVES!

I agree with Angelo

I completely agree with Angelo. I am also a victim of Geeks Home and Office. I can relate to Angelo because I performed all the same steps to try and get paid except Geeks Home and Office contacted me directly and not using TecDirect. I have several of the phones calls I had with David, the man who contacted me for the job, recorded and will be using them in a class action lawsuit as proof. I have emails from geekshomeandoffice2@gmail.com stating the job description and that my check would be processed and sent the end of that month which is now creeping up to a month of not getting paid. This company is a scam hands down. Hundreds of complaints don't lie. And the BBB rates Geeks Home and Office with a flat "F."

Bottom line if your defending Geeks Home and Office chances are your the person running the business scamming everyone.

Sorry I took so long to reply, business has been booming.

1) Yes, I have written proof about payment time. No contracts were signed as this was all done online. I have written proof from Geeks Home and Office AND the "site policies" of TecDirect, which directly states a 3 business day payment time.

2) After job completion, defined by Geeks as being after I have the customer sign off on the work order (done) and I e-mail the work order to them (also done).

3) No contract was signed, I only have the site policies of TecDirect stating what they hold their buyers to, Geeks Home and Office's terms, and a ton of e-mails from Geeks promising various payment dates.

4) The job order does contain information about payment, including the rate, and even a memo later added by Geeks acknowledging the work was done and to be paid by 4/13/2012.

As an update to everyone, I was finally contacted by CJ at TecDirect. It has been two weeks since his initial contact and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. So, while Geeks is definitely crooked, TecDirect may redeem themselves after all.

1) Did you sign a contract or have any written proof about the payment time?
2) When you said you would be paid 3 business days, after what activity? After you accept a job order? After you get a job done? After the job order is closed? Or else?
3) Do you have a copy of the contract you signed (if you did sign)?
4) Does the job order contain any information about payment as well?

Really, TucsonDave?

TucsonDave, you sure spend a lot of time on here defending Geeks Home and Office. So much time, in fact, I suspect you're a fake account opened by them.

"It seems you are wasting more time posting than you do work." A personal attack, even? Wow. If you want to make a fake account to defend your company, a little subtlety would work best. You're really obvious. It's not my fault Geeks Home and Office is run so poorly. It's not ridiculous to expect a company to be run with integrity and responsibility. Don't attack me for being upset that I have been lied to about payment dates and callbacks EIGHT TIMES in less than one month.

I don't care if Geeks always pays late. That is a sign of a badly run company. People need to know about this so they can make an informed decision. They need to know the word of Geeks Home and Office is worth nothing. They'll pay you when they feel like it, despite anything they say. You have to follow their policies, be professional, show up on time, etc. They apparently can do whatever they want.

They agreed to pay me within three business days and, 29 days later, they haven't even closed my work order. They don't return phone calls or respond to e-mails. TecDirect, who supposedly is there to provide some amount of protection, is guilty of the same. Geeks Home and Office has broken every promise they've made as to payment dates, three now, and every promise to keep in contact with me regarding the supposed situation, five at the moment.  When I do get a hold of them, they tell me I'll get paid at the end of the week...then the next week...and the week after. Whenever I do get a hold of someone, generally by calling from someone else's phone number, they promise they will call me if anything happens...and never do. They promise I can call them because they're there all day...then they don't pick up the phone and don't return my messages when I call due to their promise being broken again. I'm in contact with FOUR OTHER TECHS who have not been paid, one who has been waiting for over 11 months, two at 3 months, and one at 2 months.

This is not a responsibly run company. The excuse that "Well, they do pay but it's always late! That makes it alright!" doesn't fly given that they leave techs hanging during that time and sometimes never pay them at all. If they actually pay me at the end of THIS week, like they promised (fourth week in a row!) I will update my reviews and let people know. Until that date, I'm going to make my experience known on this website, several other scam websites, and every Craigslist Computer Services listing in the country. They've gotten away with shady business practices for far too long.

The Geeks are always paying late but they always pay. It hasnt barely even been 30 days and your posting all this?  It seems you are wasting more time posting than you do work.  Guaranteed all this time will be wasted when you get paid.  Most Geeks pay 30-60 days out.
