2011 Camaro, Dealer is claiming that the engine is blown but really hasn't checked. Says they won't warranty the work because they believe it is due to neglect. I contacted Chevy customer service and the GM executive office but they just went along with the dealer.

They want $6800 for a new engine and if I want a true diagnosis of my current engine they want $1800. The car is 11 months old with 32k miles, this is my everyday driver. We changed the oil ourselves but I am unable to locate the receipts to prove this.

I have been a loyal gm customer for 11 years and my parents have been customers for almost 50 years. It makes me sick to think that I purchased warranties and all to help me in the situation but their sitting their making excuses to get off the hook. This was not a cheap purchase and none of my others have been either.

We learned years ago from a similar episode.

As much as I may not like to, we always have preventative maintenance done at the dealer during the warranty period so there is no issue.  It costs more than doing it ourselves but does it really?  Right now you'd be saving $6,800.00 or, if you can get them to pay some way, you save a LOT of hassle.

What did they say caused the engine failure, and what specifically was "blown" on it? you always take a big risk not having regular maintenance done at a dealership while under warranty. and you can't fault them if the failure points to a problem related to normal maintenance for which you can't provide documentation. And by its very nature, the Camaro would likely be abused far more than their other models, save maybe for the Corvette. so They're far more like to suspect abuse when a brand new Camaro engine "blows".

- This is your problem.  If you can't prove you did maintenance they are going to say it was due to neglect, and most manufacturers would take this same stance.  Especially when you put 32K miles on your car in only 11 months.  Unfortunately because of the lack of documentation it is up to you to "fight" for it to be covered under warranty.  So you are going to have to show that you didn't neglect the maintenance.  For a repair of several thousand dollars they are not going to just take your word for it.

32K miles in 11 months would be considered high by most peoples standards.  So hopefully you were following the "recommended" maintenance based on miles and not time.  Based on this you probably should have been changing the oil about every month, so it seems hard to believe that you don't have a single receipt.

Also, you also should have been doing more than just changing the oil.  So unless you did ALL of the maintenance yourself you should be able to show at least some receipts from shops.  They may not have been for an oil change but if you have other records it could show you were not neglecting it.

How did you pay for the oil?  Was it on a Credit/Debit card or by check?  If so you should be able to pull your records showing you made purchases at an auto parts store that may show you bought the oil.  Does the store you bought it from keep records?  If so can you get it from them?

But if you have NO records then yes unfortunately you may be out of luck.

Have you taken it to an independent shop to see what they say?
