Complaint Review: General Steel Corporation

I take some responsibility for being lied to for 18 months before I finally said ENOUGH. Now I can't get my 50,000.00 in deposit money back. I don't think General Steel ever intended on sending the steel building. As their competitors are now saying they are a "deposit business" only.

We are trying to build a simple gymnasium for youth who are in foster-care in our state.

I started the process with General Steel being told that I would be getting a steel building, "turn-key" - including the construction which they said they would manage, for a set price. It seemed like a very good deal. After I send in my deposit (which has to be sent in "TODAY" or special clearance, etc. would end) I find out that the "building" is just the steel. OK.

But then I find out that the simple building as I outlined quite specifically upon the sale DIDN'T include the windows and doors and other simple amenities I had specified. These items had a huge price tag and I was told I had to go through General Steel because they were the ones machining the steel etc.

Then I was told that for me to submit my plans to the city I would have to pay another 26,000 in addition to what I had already been told - and had to send it up-front - for the plans! I was enraged, but hey, I grew up on Paul Harvey and believed somehow I was still in competitive ranges for a building - even though I found out later I was way out of range.

Then there was the huge delivery price tag they didn't tell me about, the fact that taxes were not configured in the final price, the fact that I had to unload the steel myself etc. NONE of these were included in the "turn-key" original price of the building.

The final straw for me was that they called to tell me that price was going to change because steel was going up. I said OK, the city has almost approved the final plans, and we can get the steel ordered. They said they would hold off on the price increase. So when we got the final paperwork, we find out they increased the price anyway. (This is a summary, I won't go into the lies lies lies I got through this part of the process - the going rates in steel price increases, that they were losing money on my project, the intimidation etc.).

I told them they made a material change in the contract and that I was out, if for no other reason that they were criminal, and I finally accepted it. Since then they have continued to try to intimidate me (Bruce) through lies etc about the contract.

Still no resolution.

Colorado Atty General said they don't pursue cases that have already been resolved until they get a few more complaints. If you have been similarly ripped off. Please let me know.
