I left a deposit of $250 via PayPal back in June, 2004 to reserve an English bulldog puppy with John Mitchell at Generalsk9. The puppy wasn't ready to be delivered yet, but I was told it would be ready within 2 weeks. A couple of weeks later, I didn't hear back from the seller so I called him.

He then said I have to wait for another 2 weeks - but didn't explain what was causing the delay. This game went on for a couple of months until Sept, 2004 when I contacted the seller again. This time he confessed that the puppy had serious joint problems; that it couldn't stand up straight and that it would require surgery. Given the scenario, the seller said he didn't want to sell the puppy to me any longer and that he would refund the deposit to me within 10 days.

Note, Generalsk9's website clearly states that the deposit is refundable if there are medical conditions with the puppies. Weeks went by and I didn't get my money back, so I called the seller again. He then said that he didn't have to give me the money back and that I can take him to court. We ended up having a major argument on the phone. I'm located in Boston, and the seller in NY. It's just not worth it to sue in another state over $250.
