Swindled on oil change!

I went in for a regular oil change ($29.99) and the MANAGER took of advantage of my being a woman by charging me for the most expensive oil change they had ($69.99!). He asked me what kind of oil and I said synthetic (the same thing my last sticker in the window said) and he charged me for a full synthetic oil change without letting me know that it was $40 more than I expected.  After I saw the bill, I asked why he didn't mention anything.  He said he "assumed" that I knew what I was saying.  I know that this is a girl mistake, but a little verbal communication from the MANAGER would have been appropriate in this instance.

Why would I ever want a $70 oil change in these economic times!??

When I asked afterwards why he didn't at least clarify as to what type of synthetic oil (which probably would have clued me into the cost), he again said he thought I knew what I was talking about.  He absolutely took advantage of my lack of knowledge about oil types.  In the end he offered me $10 off, but the checkout lady only took off $5 even after I mentioned that he said $10.  BAD BUSINESS.  Take your business elsewhere!!

You Should Not Have Paid It

The first thing you should "always" do when bringing your car in for service, get a "total" price including tax and everything before you permit them to do anything to your car. If they come back saying you owe them more, I would not pay them. If they refuse to give you your car back, charge them with grand theft auto. You have the right not to pay them that kind of money. Some places will have you sign an agreement that this is what they will do to your car for that particular price. If they didn't have you sign that, then your not obligated to pay that higher price.

One tip of advice I would adive anyone when bringing their car in for service, is to only take your car to someone you know is reputable. obviously this place that Katie took her car to is not a reputable place. Be careful who you take your vehicle to.

Okay, first of all,you say they "swindled you out of money"because yoiu are a woman.

I myself am a woman, and you are making us all look bad with your dumb comments.

You can only get ripped off if you allow yourself to be.

If you don't know what something is,ASK! It's not the mechanic's job to read your mind. You shouldn't throw words like"synthetic" around if you don't understand the meaning of them.

And,no that's not a "girl" mistake.That's an idiot mistake.(man or woman).

As a woman I understand that when I go to a mechanic, they're probally gonna assume I know nothing about cars and try to rip me off.

But here's some advice,Say no if you're not sure.Noone's holding a gun to your head making you buy s*#%.

Get a second opinion

Just ask for the "cheapest "oil change when you  go in

Your own ignorance is why you paid $60 for an oil change. It's not the mechanics job to educate you on the in's and outs of oil changes. ( I'm assuming that you may be  and "older lady")Because most of them are just as "sexist" as men.You should not expect a man to do everything for you.You assume that women just don't,or shouldn't know anything about cars,or oil changes ,or tires, etc. And that all men should "know this" and automatically explain every detail to you.Why don't you teach yourself?it's pretty easy, and there are books you can buy. It's not exactly rocket science to figure out how much an oil change costs.so stop playing the outdated damsel in distress cli'che and grow a pair. You are part of the reason why I'll never see a woman president!

You asked for the same oil as last time.Of course he's gonna look at the sticker and give you the same thing.DUH! Also,"tough economic times"? not everyone is broke Especially people who live in Scottsdale,Az.How the hell does he know if your "broke" or not.You probally pulled up in a friggin Lexus with a chiuiua on your lap and a gucci  purse.YES I CURRENTLY LIVE IN THE PHOENIX, AREA so i know what I'm talking about.
