I shared a building with my father for 10 years. We are both custom machine shops however I have my customers and he has his. I own CNC Machines and he owned old mechanical technology. He wanted to get into get into the CNC side of machinig but no matter how hard i tried I could not teach him to program. So for 10 years, I programed 4 of his CNC's and programed and opperated the 3 CNC's i owned by purchasing them on my own. We do alot of short run work so I wrote atleast 10-14 programs a week for him, loaded the tooling, proofed and tweeked his jobs. And, I was demanded to drop whatever I was doing to do his programs, even though I was never employed by him.

I ran my own separate cnc shop, but my duties were considered secondary to his demands. He took about 3 3week long vacations a year at which time i handles all the demands of my shop and the demands of his shop until his return. I quoted all his CNC jobs to his customers, an d because i owned the cnc machines first, he borowed all my tooling instead of purchasing his own. Honestly, we often did not see eye to eye, and i'm as stubboren as he is. But, I never expected he would sell his buisness without ever giving me an oppurtunity to buy him out.

One day, I found out he sold out to some guy, and I have to find a new building in a month or two. After 10 years, if he likes me or not, i deserved a better heads up or at least an arrangement to buy him out over a stranger. Rip off ? Maybe not, but certainly lack of integrity beyond what I ever imagined.

And a few more things mr. kiss as-s john. I have over 200,000 in equity in my house, oh yeah you live in clifton heights, sucks to be you. I bought the first cnc machine from my dad because he couldn't catch on to programing. He bought one after I bought my second. I owned 99 percent of the tooling, he borrowed my tooling for 8 years not the other way around. Tommy Walser taught me mazatrol, i already knew fanuc, not you. tom taught mazatrol for mazak and gave me a 1/2 day lesson, what color is the sky in your world that you think you taught me. The high point of the programs you did for my dad on the occasions I was out, I got a really good laugh at what and how you wrote a program. What could you be thinking, your programs are way too busy. And my nest point I got rent of 500 sq. feet and electric in return for programing my dad's machine. It costs alot more to hire a programer that 500 sq. feet a month cost. I got space, my dad got use of my programs. I did not own the space and fyi my dad didn't own my programs. You downloaded them and my dad sold them to your boss. All of you are in possesion of my intelecual property. My programs have been stolen by your employer. They are not owned by my father and I have not been compensated for them. Maybe a good lawyer could nelp me out.

You are neither a member of the family or have work for my dad.

in reference to John

Love your 8 numbered points. You are neither a member of the family or have work for my dad. Your 8 points are based on what you have been lied to about or made up in your little mind, however all 8 are incorrect. You defend my dad because the only way you can get ahead is by kissing as-s and by the way everyone laughs at you behind your back. In fact, at your last place of employment, you talked them in to buying Mazaks and when the machines came in your couldn't make them run....you had to come see me because you forgot mazaks had a tooling description page. HA HA HA, how can you forget that, oh yeah.......your a dumb as-s. In fact when you gat canned from that place my dad got you the job you have now. Anyway, my dad has said"john is an okay programer but he's no Linda". If you were half of the programer I am you would have to constantly suck up, back stab, and lie.

Linda,
I think its only fair you post the truth about your claims. You started your own business venture with the help of your father. I know, I taught you how to program. I find it very disturbing to see you slam someone who has done so much for you. I need to point out some very important things that effect the success of a new business. For the last ten years you had the following:

1) You occupied space in your fathers shop RENT FREE.

2) You built your customer base from your FATHERS customer base and reputation.

3) You ran your CNC's for free without paying for electricity or material.

4) You used your fathers knowledge and skill in the industry for free.

5) You used your fathers equipment for free.

6) You used your fathers shipping and tooling suppliers for free.

7) You had access to your fathers employees when needed for free.

8) You had complete access to a complete machine shop for free.

Over the last ten years you have had all of this and in the end you've wasted all this. You knew a year in advance that your dad was going to sell. You also knew that there was no way you could afford to buy the business. You shouldn't be blaming your father for all of your problems. Take the knowledge and experience you've learned and maybe with some hard work you can build a strong business.

Hugh left out one point. Those customers you have been tending to all these years, when the dad was off on one of his vacations. Whatever! THOSE customers KNOW who was really doing their work! There is no way you could have been doing all of that for so long to go unnoticed by anyone, especially the customers!

Good luck hon, and take the advice Hugh gave you. Break away from the energy sucking dude who sired you!

Linda - this relationship was weird on so many levels. But look upon this as an opportunity to break away from your father for good and go out on your own.

You know that "his" CNC customers were really getting their work done by you - there's really no reason why you should not be calling those customers NOW and soliciting their business. After all, it's you that's been essentially doing the work for the past decade.

This might be the best thing that ever happened to you. Best of luck!
