Gil Almquist is the epitome of political corruption and abuse of power, using St. George City zoning codes to punish citizens while violating these same zoning codes with his personal landscaping business.  In the St. George News article On Kilter: Incestuous Nepotism is Hard to Swallow, the question is raised: "Does there exist a network of individuals who hold power in this city through business, social or religious relationships who manipulate code and the justice system to benefit one's personal and business bottom lines?"

Such is the case with the corrupt St. George City Counilman, Gil Almquist, who, as the article references: "If in fact there are individuals who engage in or collude to engage in self-serving behavior at the expense of citizens-- one would only need look at the recent scenario where City Councilman Gil Almquist flagrantly violated the very city codes he and the city enforced upon its citizens, ruthlessly and expensively--then they must be exposed and dealt with harshly."

And now we hear that this same Gil Almquist--who used St. George city codes to protect his landscaping business while punishing other citizens for the very same violations--is now running for a seat on the Washington County Commission.  But this is an election cycle where the corruption of John Swallow colluding with Harry Reid is being exposed and prosecuted.  For this same reason, Gil Almquist needs to be exposed for the self-serving, corrupt person he is.  Washington County has taken two positive steps in the right direction electing Zachary Renstrom and Victor Iverson to Commision seats, and do not need to take a huge step backwards by electing such a dishonest and corrupt Almquist who needs to stay retired from public service, if not investigated for his corruption while on the St. George City Council.

"If the relentless investigation into Swallow is telling, it indicates that the people's attention to what their political leaders are doing is not going to go away."

Shill for Gil Almquist Won't Respond to Almquist Abusing His Position on St. George Utah City Council

#3Author of original report

Almquist was guilty of using his city property for storage of his landscaping business equipment/supplies in the same illegal manner as he pursued others for with the same violations.  When an actual journalist (read the article before accusing of failing to cite facts/sources) stood on public property filming Almquist's city violations.

He threatened to call his buddy Marlon Stratton from the St. George Police Department to come deal the reporter.   He is a corrupt politician who abused his power on city council, unjustly pursued other city residents for the same violations he himself was guilty of, and then tried to abuse his relationship with the St. George police department to receive special treatment.  Typical do as we say, not as we do hypocrisy!

I read this report and was shocked. Shocked by the lack of evidence or even an explanation of any wrong doing. I happen to know Gil Almquist well. He has a kind and considerate heart, dedicated to a city he loves and has worked really hard for the benefits of others.

2016 was an election year, full of bitterness and hatred. This report seems to be a perfect example of exactly that. People writing to forums such as this should consider the hurt and and consequences of such actions which do not just affect the individual, but also the lives of others.
