September 2006. The same scam reported in many otherplaces on internet. I pull into stafford Services on M6, going South. Guy in navy car asks if I speak Italian. Tells me he's a clothing rep who has been in manchester at a trade show and wants to give away some samples rather than pay taxes to take them home.He says he will give me 2 jackets that he says are 'samples made for Armani', if I buy a third jacket from him for half its value. In the end he lets me get him down to half of teh sum he'd asked. I hand over cash. he hands over 3 jackets which look fine in a service area, but on closer inspection are market-stall quality fakes.

The guy offered a passport in the name of Giovanni Caso, as id, and obligingly wrote out his passport number and this name ona piece of paper.

Whole thing was beautifully done, really excellent con trick, and I paid 160 for stuff that a quick glanc eat e-bay suggests is worth maybe 30.

If you happen to run into the same guy, please butt him in the head from me!
