In October 2004 we hired Glenview Tile to install a new wood floor in our recently purchased condo. The unit had rediant heated perimeter heating in the concrete floor so we had to have a floating floor, not one nailed down. We picked Mohawk Flooring's Bamboo material and it was installed on November 2, 2004. Less than a month later, the floor started splitting and cracking, randomly throughout the apartment.

The owner of Glenview Tile, Ed, came to inspect in January, 2005, whereupon he said he'd have to have an inspector from Mohawk come to look at it. On January 28, 2005, the inspector came and filed a report, which I finally got on February 28, which stated that the damage was caused by too much "moisture." Mind you, no moisture barrier was ever installed by Glenview Tile, such as a plastic sheet beneath the cork mat underlayment. No one ever checked the concrete floor before installation to see if it had too much moisture - and Mohawk's installation guide, which I retrieved from the garbage, clearly stated it was the installer's responsibility to check for moisture prior to installation!

Mohawk's published warranty, which they refuse to honor, states that damage caused by sub-floor moisture will be replaced by Mohawk, materials only.

Now comes the best part - on March 8, 2005, Ed, the owner of Glenview Tile and Carpet, indicated to me, after I threatened legal action that the splitting and cracking we are enduring is caused by not enough moisture in the apartment, even though the humidity had been between 40-50%!

The floor continues to split and crack and at some point, will have have to be completely removed and replaced, for more than the $5,595.00 we paid for it.
