I received a green postcard stating on the top "SPECIAL NOTICE:  Pending cash grant claim $20,978 (DOE)" and then above my name and address was "CLAIMS DOCUMENT REGISTERED TO".  At the bottom of the front of the card, in a box, was "WARNING:  $2,000 fine and/or 5 year imprisonment for interfering or obstructing with delivery, of this letter, US MAIL SECURITY, 1708".  I suppose this is to make everything is on the up and up and actually from the Federal Government.

On the other side of the card, at the top, was "URGENT:  READ IMMEDIATELY."  Then "DELIVERED BY:  Claim Department" and after to whom the document was delivered "NOTICE:  Our office is trying to reach you r4egarding a dispersal of Government Funding."  Next line is "STATUS:  Pending."  The toll free number was given as was a Release Code and a Claim Deadline Date.

I called the number and they said I would receive a free report for a processing and shipping charge of $12.95.  I told them that the information was available free from the government and why would I pay them an outrageous amount for shipping and processing.  They hung up.

Unless you receive something from the Federal Government, which will not come to you unsolicited, it is undoubtedly a scam.  You can find these programs online and make sure you only utilize sites that end with .gov.
