I received a letter with a check in the amount of $4,930 today, May 3, 2008. The letter states that I had been randomly selected for a home improvement grant of $39,000 and it was deposited into an escrow account pending claim. The check of $4,930 is a deduction from my total grant money to assist in paying the necessary fees and taxes for this claim which is a mandatory legal requirement and serves as a verification method to establish the legitimacy of my claim. I was asked to contact my Claim Manager before cashing the check. The letter states there is $35,850 disbursed to me as a final cash settlement but will remain in their custody until I pay the necessary fees and taxes. Once they receive my payment, I will receive a second check being my final Award settlement within 3 to 5 business days by courier delivery. Of course, if it sounds too good to be true it most likely is. So I started my research on this so called grant money and immediately found it on the ripoff report website. I've called the number on the letter and it's a recording asking me to leave my name and number for a return call. Something needs to be done to stop this before some poor gullable person falls prey to this scam. Believe me when I say the letter and the check looks absolutely authentic and I can totally see many people cashing it only to find out later they've lost everything that was in their bank account.

This is to inform you that there is currently fraudulent activity offering a grant in return for cashing a check and remitting funds to Global Concepts to cover costs and then an additional check will be processed. THIS IS NOT A VALID GRANT OFFER!
This is currently under investigation with local police and our banking facility. The check sent lists a valid bank account and looks legitimate, but when submitted for payment the check will be returned to sender by our bank. It is a fraudulent check even though the account information is valid. Our banking information has been stolen and is being used for this scam. We have no affiliation with these people.
Please do not cash any checks or send any funds to the people listed in the grant letter. They are in no way affiliated with Global Concept Enterprise, Inc, Holland, Michigan.
If you cash or have cashed a check, it will be returned to your account and you will be responsible for giving the amount of the check cashed back to your banking facility.
We are doing everything possible to put a stop to this scam and hope that the individual(s) that have orchestrated this will be caught very soon.
