In August 2013, my mother-in-law passed away. Prior to her passing, she had never went to be seen by a doctor for any health related issues. That same month, she decided to apply for life insurance since she felt she was getting old. She was in her 70s. She applied and was accepted by Globe Life Insurance. Again, shortly after she wanted to be seen by a doctor for abdominal pain. When she was seen by the doctor, she was diagnosed with cancer. Mind you, we had no knowledge of any physical ailments until that day. Two weeks after the diagnosis, my mother-in-law passed away.

We filed a claim with Globe Life Insurance, they requested the certified death certificate (which we did mail to them and they acknowledged receipt), and they requested all of my mother-in-law's medical records from the doctor. All the information was sent and the insurance company did receive, and then they sent us a letter basically saying that my mother-in-law's application looked like it had been back-dated.

Furthermore, said we should've answered "yes" to the question of any existing medical conditions. Of course we answered "no" because we were unaware of any medical conditions. Basically the insurance company is trying to find any way they can to NOT pay the life insurance. It is a small policy ($50,000) but the point being, this insurance company refuses to pay. I have read many complaints about this insurance company ... there has to be something we all can do to make this company pay. Anyone have any suggestions?

There is a company that represents beneficiaries who have life insurance claims denied. If your Globe Life claim was denied you should contact The Center for Life Insurance Disputes for help.

If they indeed did violate the terms of the WRITTEN policy...

Immediately file a complaint with your states insurance commissioner.  You should read the policy first.  If the paperwork you sent in wasn't back dated, perhaps the doctor will certify that it wasn't.  If it was, you may be in trouble.  Good luck to you.
