Globe Moving and Storage Hundreds to replace damaged items!!! Garden City, Kansas
I contracted Globe Moving and Storage of Garden City, KS to transport my household from Washington State to Oklahoma. They were meant to pick up our belongings on June 8th, but then called and requested to pick up our belongings on June 10th, siting another customer in the area.
On June 8th, as I began my drive to Oklahoma, I started calling Globe Moving and Storage to pay the deposit I owed them. I left at least 8 messages on that day, plus phoning them every 2 to 3 hours the entire day on Thursday. Finally at around 9 pm CST I received a phone call from the truck driver stating he would be at my previous address between 1 and 3 pm PST. He did not arrive until just after 5 pm on June 10th.
The movers who arrived on June 10th showed up 3 hours late, the driver claiming his cellular phone battery died, and he got lost - his GPS apparently in his phone. However, he did have another individual with him; apparently this other moving person did not possess a cell phone in which to phone the individuals waiting for the moving company at my former residence.
I continued to call Globe Moving and Storage throughout the day on Friday, also on Saturday, and on Sunday. Not only did I not receive any returns calls, but no one seemed to be able to manage to answer their phone. I left many messages and did not receive ANY return phone calls throughout the entire weekend. Finally, on Wednesday June 15th, I reached a person named Mickala in Customer Service who claimed she had no idea where my belongings were as their network was down, but promised a return call later that day, by the next day at the latest. I asked her when my property was due to arrive, she stated between June 13th and 21st. obviously, we were already in the delivery waiting period.
Mickala never returned my calls, so I had a friend of mine calling them continually to locate my belongings. Finally on June 16th, I was informed that my property had not even left Washington yet. A gentleman by the name of Chris claimed it was their busy season and they couldnt get a truck up to pick up my belongings for the transport to Oklahoma. I was then informed that they would do anything in their power, even if it meant hiring an outside contractor to get my belongings on the road. We were informed by Chris, at that time that a truck was in California and would be heading towards Washington and would begin loading my property on June 17th and I would receive a phone call to that fact on the aforementioned June 17th.
June 17th came and went, and I did not receive a phone call. Finally, a Rogers County Deputy Sheriff made some calls on my behalf. He did not receive any return calls to all his voice mails. I continued to call and again, no one ever answered the phones, no one returned calls to anyone that was calling that company on my behalf. Not one time during the period of time my belongings were in the care of this company did I receive a return call from anyone in regards to the location of my property, between June 10th, and June 30th. My promised delivery date being between June 13th and 21st, of course, I began to have serious suspicions regarding the return of my property.
Finally, on June 30th, I finally received a phone call from Abraham the dispatcher saying my belongings were on a truck and heading to Oklahoma, I informed him of the address change and that it was a small rural road the truck would need to come down. He gave me the drivers phone number, and said our belongings should be in Oklahoma within a few days, but that I would need to call the driver regarding an ETA.
I phoned the driver on July 1st and did not receive a return call. I phoned again on July 2nd, and left another message, informing the driver of the new address also. I did finally receive a return call a few hours later, and the driver, Bo said he would call me back again the next afternoon with an ETA. Sunday afternoon came and went with no return call. I called the driver again on Monday and received a return call again, several hours later. He gave me some song and dance about Utah, and Colorado. Tuesday then came and went without another word. I call the main office, since the drive didnt seem capable of answering his phone and again, received nothing but voice mail, and no return call.
Finally Wednesday evening, July 6th, the driver phoned and informed me he would be at our location in the morning and asked me to text him the correct address. With that text, I also sent specific directions on which way to turn on our country road that would lead him straight to our dead end road. He made a wrong turn, called me, blaming me for it. I kept the text showing that I did give him the right directions. I then had to load the driver into my personal vehicle, and show him how to get to the house, he ranted and raved saying he couldnt go down that street.
The Driver called his boss and his boss told me I would have to go hire a UHaul truck, have the movers transfer all my property from their truck into the UHaul and it would cost me an additional $250. My significant other managed to explain to the driver that the truck could in fact fit down our street and onto our property without problem before the driver would come to deliver my belongings.
When the driver finally did plan to begin unloading the truck, he presented me with a contract I had never seen before, containing my x husband signature. No copy of this contract was ever sent, offered, and even read to me in the past. There is nowhere on the contract that shows the specific weight of the load (to verify the amount I was to pay), but they charged me an additional $130 for going over the original estimated weight of 3500 lbs, there was also a charge for packing materials that I was unaware of. The original agreement included special packaging for a chair and paintings, the paintings were NOT packaged by Globe Moving and Storage, yet they charged me $209, when the originally agreed upon price for packaging the chair and paintings was $200.
The driver and his assistant brought the boxes of our property into the house and every box was damaged in one way or another and several of them completely torn open and items falling out of them. I have honestly never seen such a mess before in my life. One box in particular was so completely torn to shreds the drivers assistant had to get another box from us to pick up the books and items belonging to my daughter that were on the truck floor. We are also missing multiple items that were meant to be shipped. I made it very clear, via telephone with the driver picking up our belongings in Washington that NO furniture was to be left behind, but yet, I am missing a 1940s Queen Anne 9 drawer dresser with mirror, a 5 foot tall cat scratching tower, and 3 window air conditioning units.
The delivery was well over 16 days late, and wasnt even loaded onto a truck to be delivered until AFTER the furthest out delivery date they promised me. Globe Moving and Storage gave every excuse in the book and refused to speak with me directly no matter how many times I phoned them and left message, after message, after message. During the LONG wait time for our belongings we had to spend hundreds of dollars to replace items that were needed during this wait time. When it was mentioned to Globe Moving and Storage their response was too bad.
Every item coming off the moving truck contained damage, every box we have opened has items damaged, some items are heirlooms and irreplaceable. It will take hundreds to replace, if we can even FIND similar items to replace the broken ones. A Beatrix Potter Tea Set that is irreplaceable with the same item is broken into bits. This company cared little for the way they handled our belongings. I wouldnt recommend these people to my worst enemy!
