GM At times my car will not start and it cannot be pinpointed when this will happen . General Motors Detroit Michigan
I have spoke with a Lisa Watson several times about the problem I have been having with my Alero . I have spent over 2-thosand dollars in inspection repairs and the problem still occurs.I understand its hard to pin point this problem however it is a problem I went to a web site about the same start up problem people are having with their 2000,2001,2002 Oldsmobile Alero .
On this site several people have found a 15-minute solution to get the car to start. 10 mins on off then turn car in the start postion but not actually starting it and then 10 min on the off position ,this is performed for a 1/2 an hour .

I am surprised that they didn't tell you that it is normal that your Alero doesn't start from time to time.
They are telling me that it is normal, that the electronic lock does not unlock the door if I hold the key fob in my right hand instead of the left hand.
They are telling me that it is normal if the "key fob inside vehicle alarm" honks the horn three times after leaving the car, even if there is no key fob inside the vehicle.
They are telling me that the clunking and banging noise at acceleration is normal.
The are telling me that a grinding noise at deceleration is normal.

Since writting in regarding the 'alero' problem I went to edmunds.com and seen all the complaints regarding the thosands of Alero owners same problem ...
This is terrible !
Buy American NEVER again ! GM is a failure and they had to have the Govt. bail their a*s out ....Perhaps the excutives should of stopped taking the big bonus's and put the money back into their failing company instead of lining their pockets....If you fail you downsize and fix it or you close ! ....ONLY in America ....

The two consumer comments posted here are questionable in the fact they contain innuendo[assumption that a seven year old car should have unrepairable problems]speculation[that he is more knowledgable than a dealer technician]and the last comment is just a trivial comment that helps no-one to head in the right direction.
I empathize with the guy who owns the seven-year-old Alero.
Can we not expect to get that amount of service [depending on average mileage and proper maintainance]from a product that cost twenty-grand?
I would suggest a call to an attorney if you have gained nothing from your 2k investment to repair your Alero,even though your car is a whole seven years old,the car should be easily diagnosed and repaired by a reputable dealer.

It's not like this is a new car! It is 7 years old!
7 year old cars will have problems!
$2000 spent with no solution?
I would change mechanics.
You need to be more specific here.
Does it crank but not start or do you get nothing when you turn the key to the start position? [This is very important].
Do you get your dash/pre-check lights when you atempt to start or not?
Do you have an alarm system on the vehicle?
If so, is it factory installed, or aftermarket?

My 96 Saab 900S has a similar problem, which is intermittent. FYI...Saab uses many GM parts.
There is a switch downline from your keyswitch that goes bad and will cause an intermittent connection. Any competent GM Mechanic would know this.
It could also be a fuel pump. If you have no fuel pressure, your ignition will not create spark on many vehicles. It is a failsafe.
Hence, repeated use of the keyswitch to build up pressure with the weak electric fuel pump.
