GM & Rosedale Chevrolet ripoff dishonest How morally wrong can one be? Detroit Michigan

We bought our 2003 Chevy S-10 extended cab truck in September of 2002 because we had a daughter and needed a second trustworthy vehicle for my husband to drive and be able to have her in the car.

What we got is anything BUT trustworthy. When we pump gas into our gas tank and it fills up, it will not shut itself off - it overflows all over the truck. It has never worked. So when we get gas, we have to get a car wash also if we don't catch it in time.

We have had it in to Rosedale Chevrolet at least 8 times for this problem and my husband finally had to take the service manager to the gas station with him to show him.
One time we had it in they claimed they were able to see it happen which was odd for two reasons.

One: they hadn't washed the truck then (it was still dirty) so that gas had sat on there for a day

Two: there was only half a tank of gas in the truck when my husband picked it up - it happens when there is a FULL tank of gas - so either someone was out joy riding in our truck or they never even tried to find the problem.

We have received very disappointing service from Rosedale Chevrolet which has only added to our frustration about the original problem - they told us the first time we had it in that they replaced the gas and it should work. It didn't. Later we heard two different stories. One guy told my husband that the part never came in so they put the old tank back in and gave it back to us (telling us it was FIXED?) and another guy told my husband the wrong part came in so put the original tank back in.

Now we are sitting in arbitration seven months later and now the service manager is lying to the arbitration department and saying he never went with my husband to see that gas overflow! How morally wrong can one be?

ok lets get down to couple specifics.
have you tried to request a service bullentin update from chevrolet technical assistance hotline?

alot of times chevrolet technical meeting produce some small advice for chevrolet technicians only and nobody else gets ahold of them notes unless a tech or outside rep finds some laying around, usually these are just technicial short cuts for chevrolet technicains, this might be of some help to you in your pursuit to attemp to fix a problem, this issue like i said is a factory issue and not something the dealership caused, alot of times communications gets lost in the computer shuffle game.

you might request chevrolet to remove the filler neck and tank for complete inspection by a factory rep at the dealership near youe home and at that time you can be present to get a more technical point of view. im sure these are all things the arbitrator will do also.
be patient and give is time,it will get fixed one way or another but the other might be that this condition exists in all s10 chev pickups.

good luck, talk to you later.

Sorry William -

I really didn't mean to take my frustration out on you at all - I just am that frustrated. I'm not riled up easily at all - we just have been through a lot of added stress with this truck. My reason for writing this report initially was to vent and also to see if anyone else who has this truck has had this problem and how they were able to fix it - like I said - we did test drive one at the Rogers location and it did the same thing - that's why we haven't brought it to any other dealers - it seems to be something with the truck itself.

We could trade it in or sell it, but I don't feel right passing this problem onto some other innocent person - so we are trying to deal with it in arbitration. Like I said, it's been frustrating dealing with people who can't help us and who are now lying - I don't lie and I have strong morals against it so I truly apologize for venting at you - I guess I'm just beyond trying to play devil's advocate for Rosedale - I've been playing that role with my husband for quite some time and it's to the point where I'm just as frustrated as he is.

We are now in arbitration and waiting for the inspector to come look at the truck. I'm sure there will be something resolved there - at the very least we at least want the gas problem fixed - don't even care so much about the other problems going on with it. If the arbitrator's decision is for us to get it fixed, we will definately bring it to another mechanic shop. I have friends that are mechanics by trade and they think there's definately something wrong and have suggested pursuing the lemon law - that's why we did.

Thanks for your advice on everything and sorry for taking my frustration out on you.

Jess

first of all i didnt imply anything that remotely said you were an idiot and your approuch at getting your vehicle fixed based on your reply, its no wonder your frustrated--your too easily riled by some stranger who has 15 years experience as an auto technician--and yes i would tell people to go the rosedale chevrolet because what your experiencing isnt rosedale chevrolet's fault they didnt build it , they are a chevrolet repair center for chevrolet and they dont always have the answer and that is why they have a technician support line and technical service bulletins for the techs on known problems.

one more thing miss, if you live in st michael why dont you take your car to miller chevrolet in rogers they are also qualified to work on the car and maybe they have seen this problem before and know the correct process to fix it. i would like to read this technicians report, would you please post the dealership repair order number and the technicians service number?
thanks and good luck once again

I'm not an idio - I know how to pump gas!!

Thanks for the info William. I do understand there are probably good technicians at Rosedale, but because of our experience and the treatment we have received, I would not recommend any of my friends to ever go there. I am not one of those people that feel everyone owes me something, but for the amt of money that this truck costed us, it is really frustrating to have this problem and not have anyone know how to fix it. It is not a problem with overflowing the gas?? On any other vehicle I have ever owned, the gas pump should shut off on it's own when it is full - this one doesn't - it overflows. At one point it was near empty and wouldn't even accept any gas - we brought back to the dealer and it's still not fixed.

Now we are in arbitration and the technician has told two different stories to the lady hearing our cases. The arbitration department is sending out their own technician to look at it and all he has to do is go take it to a gas pump, start filling it and wait for it to overflow on him to see what the problem is and it will then be pretty clear who was lying here.

I'm not an idiot - I know how to fill a gas tank - but I can't predict when the tank is full - all other vehicles have something that triggers the pump to stop pumping - ours obviously isn't working and we've tried to get it fixed. We have to sit and watch the gas fill every time so we can stop it before it overflows. Normally we'd be washing our windows or cleaning the garbage out while our gas pumps, but NO - we have to sit there and watch to gas fill because this piece of crap vehicle isn't working right and can't figure out when to shut the pump off. This 2003 S-10 has spent more time in the mechanic shop than our 1998 Blazer - and it's STILL not fixed!!

If you had an experience like this would you honestly recommend any of your friends or just anyone in general to go there? I highly doubt it and if so, I'm just glad your not my friend.

first of all dont get mad at rosedale chevrolet just yet, they didnt build this truck....read on.
i was a technician for rosedale and they have some really good techs there.

first of all if your truck was not washed that might be because they did the inspection and might have ordered parts for your truck and in most cases they wont wash it at that time.

second of all if your truck was low on fuel then the technician didnt empty the fuel buggy that they put your removed fuel in while they inspect the tank, this is to take the weight off the tank to move it around. common practice because not all technicians look at your gas gauge to see how much fuel you have in it. expecially when the customer complaint isnt from inside the vehicle but from the outside, so you should have mentioned something to the service writer or shop manager over this one.

third of all the fuel overfilling issue sounds like you may be over filling your truck if you have to pump fuel all the way to the top, please understand that not all vehicles are not made the same, some have long inlet necks for gas tanks and some have short inlet necks on the tank and some even have a slight curve to them. so there may be alot of reasons why this keeps spitting fuel out at you, i also read that you said they put the old tank back in,they did this so you could have your truck back until the part came in and they could replace it at that time-this is a common practice to do if the vehicle is not a safety issue to the customer. maybe you feel you got robbed but it sounds like maybe there was a communication break down between the technicians and the service writers which at car dealers is common because they have a computerized dispatch system and not all technicians fill out all the information the right way.

good luck with your truck.
all vehicles have troubles and if you dont feel the truck is safe trade it for something else.

OK -the end of my report got cut off so I just wanted to say that is anyone else has had these problems or any other problems with this truck ( we also had defective tire) , please contact us. If it was just us two driving in it, it wouldn't make us so terrified, but our biggest fear is that the faulty gas tank may have more problems than just spilling gas and if it were to errupt in flames, our daughter would be in the back in a car seat and it would be very difficult to get her out quickly - I think of this every time we drive that truck. Thanks for listening.
