I have been charged for an "Additional Product" called Essentials for Women on my Mortgage Statement for $8.95. When I called GMAC Mortgage, they told me I needed to call Bayview at 1-800-211-6676 to have them remove it from my monthly bill. However, when I call the 1-800 number, I get the following message "You have reached Platinum Plus Value at 1-800-211-6676. We are busy assisting "A" customer. Please leave your name, number and account number and we will call you back."

I had a sneeky suspicion that I was being scammed so I started searching the Internet and when I typed in the 1-800 number, it brought me to the RipOff Report site. GMAC Mortgage tells me that they cannot remove the charge so any advice would be greatly appreciated. The unfortunate thing about my case is I just noticed it and it has been happening for several months.

Tell GMAC that you will sue if it doesn't get removed. First provide a letter to GMAC in writing. Tell them you will seek interest and costs if they do not remove it from your account. Write a second letter to GMAC entitled QUALIFIED WRITTEN REQUEST. In that letter, request to know how this company came to get onto your account. Ask for the particulars in that regard. By Federal law they have to acknolwedge your letter in 20 days and provide a response within 60 days.

More than Likely GMAC was involved

Banks and credit card companies are working with these bogus membership services and even if you choose not to take advantage of the offering - you are getting signed up for them anyway.

That's how they get your account information in the first place - by working with the companies that hold your accounts.

Trilegiant is one of the biggest culprits out there and I did check and these 2 business names you provided do not show on the Trilegiant list of membership programs.

Ask at the number you called how you got enrolled and they will probably tell you it was via GMAC...

UPDATE

#4Author of original report

Tue, September 09, 2008

I talked to Julie, Senior Customer Rep, at GMAC Mortgage and explained my situation and she put me on hold why she called the company. When she came back she said that she received the company's VME which was very rare because she usually never receives an VME when she calls the third party companies they deal with. She was, however, able to remove the charge from my account and she was going to contact management regarding this issue because she said that 1). it concerned her that she was receiving an VME and 2). I expressed to her my concern that I felt that I was being scammed because I found the 1-800 number on the RipOff Report site. I do feel my situation has been resolved at this time because the charge has been removed from my account.
