Where is the rip off?
You have a mortgage with them under one name but your income taxes (Pay check) is under another name.
If I was your lender I would be worried too and check more than once a year.

I suspect that the "letter" they are sending you is a statement of INTEREST PAID on your mortgage for the previous calendar year.
They are REQUIRED to issue this statement so that YOU CAN DEDUCT THE INTEREST PAID ON YOUR MORTGAGE from your taxable income when you file your income taxes.
I have several mortgages (rental properties) and EACH lender sends me such a statement for income/business tax filing purposes.
My wife's mortgage is under her maiden name but she files with the IRS and NY State with her married name. This has not been a problem whatsoever.
