GMS Incorporated - Tri-Universal - T New Name for an Old "Company" Livonia Michigan
Do not be fooled, do not be scamed. Just because they have a new name does not mean they have changed their ways. I was nearly fooled by the new look of Tri-Universal and you would be too if they changed their name completely. It seemed nice and legitimate, a new company called GMS Incorporated ready to escalate you to your new career in the Marketing/Events Industry. I was excited, thrilled that this great opportunity had come along and they picked me to come in and interview.
So in preparation for the interview I started to do some research on this great new company that states "we have worked with a many great high profile companies and non profit organizations such as NASCAR, Disney, Warner Bros., Toys for Tots, and the DARE program". Yet, I researched more and nothing was popping up. No articles giving praise on the great job GMS Incorporated provided, no other website that would link or mention their website. I started to think "is this for real." Why would a company that has worked for all these other great names not be mentioned somewhere...heck... anywhere. Part of the whole marketing aspect is to work for such companies to get your name out into the world and spread the awesomeness that is your marketing company. But alas, nothing popped up except the website for GMS Incorporated. "Strange", I thought to myself as the interview drew near.
Still feeling uneasy about the whole situation, I called up my sister and had her check the website out just in case I missed something. She has always been the detective in our family. She calls me up about five minutes later saying "hey, i did see something in their website that was a little odd. A typo of some sort. In the FAQ portion it mentions a totally different company called 'Tri-Universal'". Again, another red flag. So we google Tri-Universal and low and behold we get several hits on this name starting off with this website RipOff Report. I read the article of a similar person going through the process and finally coming to terms that the company was a scam. A total charade victimizing innocent people and taking their money. People with good hearts and the greatest of intentions.
Now I'm sure your thinking after finding out this information, did I go to this interview? Sadly enough I did. I was actually in route to the interview when this new discovery came to my attention. So, slightly pissed off and feeling extremely uneasy I go to see what the whole setup was like so I could warn others of the theatrical play that was about to be presented before me.
Finally, I arrive to my destination, a rented out building space with 2 cars in the parking lot. Eerie to say the least. I could sense the horror movie music in the background. As I walked through the door immediately you could tell that this was no thriving business. With the most minimal office furniture and the desk that were probably left behind from the previous renters, it was a crap shoot. A radio that looked like someone brought in from home and one of those pseudo-light up aquariums in the corner, as if that would bring some sort of office ambiance to the room. The assistant/receptionist was nice and cordial and even flashed the DARE clipboard proving that it is a company they have worked for. Hence all the pens, clipboards, wall decor and such.
Into the interview I meet a man named Jim who is out-going, energtic and gave me the always ready to go speech that is from any movie or story line of this sort. "2 years ago I was in your place and look at me now, a manager recuiting for new "talent" like yourself". "Ugh" was all I could think, answers coming out of my mouth that were so extremely flaky and wish-washy. "Do you consider yourself a self-motivator?" Jim asked. "Sure" I replied. Not typically an answer I would give at a true interview with any other company. I would usually say something more along the lines of "I'm more than a self-motivator. I'm a great team leader and always up for new and exciting challenges" by why put in that effort for a scam company. So as Jim rattled on, parts of that ladies story started to surface, like the second interview actually going out into the field and being somewhat kidnapped by these people. Once he finished his speech he asked me if I had any questions, so I asked him about Tri-Universal and why it was mentioned on their website. "Oh, they are one of our sister companies the lady who owns this one owns several all over our nation." Horror of all horrors, these people are all over our nation under several other alias' wasting people's time, money, and especially now, gas. The minute I mentioned that I could not find any information on GMS but several on Tri-Universal, my interview was quickly wrapped up and I was sent on my merry way. Jim stating that he would resolve the typo in their website and thanked me for noticing. *thppp* Thank me...you mean "Oh my freaking goodness, we need to fix that screw up right now". Thanks to those who cannot proofread and letting opening up my eyes to cruel people who are corrupting others who just want to get a honest, decent job. Those BASTARDS!! I should have asked for gas money before I left.
So please make sure you research all aspects of a company before going in for an interview. Because you never know what might be lurking around on the other side of that rented out office space w/ a desk.
