Go Tec Financial Inc., (GOTEC) called my wife and offered her a credit card with a $5,000.00 limit. All they wanted was $219.90 for processing fees. We received a debt management book and CD in the mail along with an application for a credit card.

I felt a scam when she told me about this and typed GOTEC into the internet. I found this website and took action.

You are not alone and are not powerless. In April of 2004 a case was decided in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. The Federal Trade Commission sued a telemarketing company that was doing the same thing that GOTEC is doing. The FTC won a 12 million dollar award without having to go to trial.

I'm not a licensed attorney yet so I can't give legal advise, but maybe I can let my experience help a little. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission alleging GOTEC violated the Federal Trade Commission Act and the Telemarketing Sales Rule. You'll have to look them up yourselves, sorry. The Federal Trade Commission Act is: 15 U.S.C.45(a), and the Telemarketing Sales Rule is 16 C.F.R. 310.3 and 310.4. Just typing them into the search engine Google.com will bring up what you need to read and determine if it fits your situation. The language is a little on the legal side but an average individual with no legal education should be able to understand enough to put two and two together.

Go to your bank and let them know that you want to block any further debits or charges with GOTEC and their partner in crime Professional Teleservices, (PROTEL). This should keep them from continuously debiting your bank account. Most banks do charge for this service but some will waive it if you tell them that you think this is a scam or a fraud. Be truthful.

The Better Business Bureaus will not handle a complaint if it alleges violations of law so that leaves GOTEC out of that option. But PROTEL is another story. Go to the website: www.clearwater.bbb.org. This is the Better Business Bureau for Florida where PROTEL is located. Once I made a complaint, PROTEL refunded my money.

Next, type or write out what happened when GOTEC contacted you. Be as accurate as possible and don't put in opinions. Now file this report with your states Attorney Generals Office and send a report to the Attorney General for Utah: Division of Consumer Protection, Heber M. Wells Building, second floor, 160 East 300 South, SM 146704, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84114. Be as detailed as possible and let them know how angry you are. At this time I'm still preparing complaints for my case.

If everyone that reads this files a complaint online at WWW.FTC.GOV then we may be able to make GOTEC pay for their deception and fraud. 2 voices are louder than one. Let your voice be heard and let the government we pay taxes for do their job.
