GoDaddy.com Took my money...never gave me my domain name...giving me the runaround refunding my money Scottsdale, AZ Scottsdale Arizona .....

It all started on June 17th, 2003. I tried purchasing a domain name through this company. I was purchasing a .biz that was on sale. I entered all of the information for the purchase and my credit card number. Once the credit card was processed, instead of seeing a thank you for your purchase... an error screen popped up and stated there was an error with the transaction. It also stated I would be contacted within 24/48 hours regarding the error message.

I thought ok, I have purchased from them (earlier in the month) before and I didn't have any problems, I thought the same would happen with this. The next day, Nothing! I emailed them because I noticed the charge went through on my credit card, but I did not receive my domain name. No email - nothing. So...I contacted them asking what happened. The first person told me - send or fax a copy of the credit card statement / domain name purchased/transaction number so they could look at it.

I emailed them with a response and sent a copy (attachment) of my credit card statement along with the email so they could see the charge on my card. Then I get a response of we give no refunds it states it on our website. They tell me they can not refund my money because the domain name is purchased with the registrar once the transaction is completed. Ok...one problem with that...when I check through their search box to see if the domain name I was trying to purchase was available or not...I found out it was still available for purchase. So...

I know the domain name wasn't purchased with the registrar because it was still available for purchase by consumers. I tried to explain that to them in my next email. I asked for them to please research the transaction before spewing policies from their site. I sent with my email proof of the charge again so they could see it. It has a date, time, amount and transaction number so they can research it. I can not imagine that a company would have money come into their accounts without some sort of name, address, date and domain name purchased. If not then they need to update their accounting systems.

So the final response I get is....we can't find the transaction you are talking about and if it did occur we will refund the money once we reconcile our accounts. I don't get a date of when that is...just a generic message. I am getting tired. I realize that the transaction was for $5.95. But I didn't receive the product and it has been 6 days since I purchased the domain. I am getting the runaround because of policies. I am an accountant. I understand the practice of keeping money as long as you can to collect the interest. But what I can't understand is taking someone's money...not giving them the product they purchased...and then not caring about resolving the problem.

No sorries - no we will look into it - Just so sad we don't refund and we can't find you in the books - send us more information please. What bothers me is that they don't seem to want to resolve it or help because the transaction is only $5.95. I am irritated and telling people to not purchase from GoDaddy.com because the customer service is poor. All I am asking for is give me my product I purchased on the 17th or give me a refund. Plain and simple.

About Hiding

A crook cannot give his own name and address. He will be immediately arrested. So he gives your name and address and you deal with the complaits till you get GoDaddy to cancel the registration. How long ? two months ? six months ?

so GoDaddy has a fix for this problem that you and the cooks have. they just say it belongs to GoDaddy and then any abuse email or government inquiries are simply forwarded to crook@hotmail.com. great service for the crook. he can steal thousands of dollars and be sure his partner, GoDaddy.com will let him know if people are wise to him.

Some domain owners pay to hide their contact details for good reason

The Great Thorn has, I believe, made a statement that he has not researched properly. Any domain owner can pay their registrar(not just Godaddy.com) to conceal their details. The reason most people do it is not because they have something to hide but to stop the phonecalls and spam masters from absolutely abusing the system.

I have in excess of 250 domains registered with godaddy.com and haven't hidden any contact details. The price I pay for that is some 600+ e-mails a day, 400 of which are spam and yes, I do filter as best I can without taking the risk of blocking genuine customers. I receive phonecalls at 2am from USA residents and those from other countries wanting to buy my domain names and others just make abusive calls.

There are certainly people who scam others via the internet and in other ways (as this site so vividly details)but I am still naive enough to believe that the huge majority of business people on this planet put ethics above the bottom line in the day to day operations of their business. Perhaps if we all understand and remember that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is!!

As I said in my previous post all consumers have a right to complain if they are wronged but we should also defend those Companies with which we deal that treat us ethically.

I am extremely disappointed that a Rip-off Report Consumer Advocate would buy into this argument without researching the facts. I think godaddy.com is the largest registrar in the states so I dare say they do sell domain names to people with evil intent - AS DOES EVERY OTHER REGISTRAR ON THIS PLANET!!! I say again that I have absolutely no relationship other than professional with godaddy.com. I am totally satisfied with the way they have treated me over the past 2 years and I reserve the right to defend them because I have weekly, sometimes daily dealings with them so I talk from experience.

If all Companies that I deal with provided me with the same service that godaddy.com does life would be even better for me in Australia than it is now (if that is possible).

Instead of throwing your hard earned money away on shonky holidays why not take a look at www.caloundratourism.com.au and come down under to my neck of the woods where we treat all of our visitors like royalty. The city of Caloundra is where the Crocodile Hunter (Steve Irwin) has his beloved Australia Zoo, the surf is always up and your US Dollars buy you a great, affordable holiday. Use the money that ripoffreport.com saves you and be really pampered on your holiday of a lifetime.

Best Wishes to all

Being a consumer advocate I have noticed something about GoDaddy.com

When I want to find out who ownes a web site that seems deceptive I will do a domain search.

Most web site owners are listed with a normal domain search site. Say I find a company that seems a bit deceptive and has a web site.

I will do a domain search and guess who pops up. It seems to me that if a deceptive company wants to hide from it's victims, they have their web domain listed under godaddy.

This makes it hard for anyone to locate the company that runs a dirty business. If you feel you have done business with a deceptive company, do a domain search to find out the company contact info.

If the company does not want you to know who or where they are, they might hide by having their web site listed under Godaddy, this way you can't find the suckers.

Godaddy has always responded promptly to me

I own a web development company on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia and use godaddy.com as my registrar of choice for all dot com domains that I register. To date I have used them to register in excess of 250 domains. There have been very few problems and I have always received a prompt, professional response from them when I need to resolve an issue.

On one occasion I had a similar problem to Marlo and the transaction did not go through but godaddy refunded to my credit card within 24 hours.

Given the number of domains that godaddy must register there appears to be very few transactions that go belly up enough to warrant reporting to this forum so I would think that they are one of your better US Companies. I point out that I receive no discounts or have no financial interest in Godaddy and our relationship is purely professional. I envisage that I will register 150 to 200 new dot com domains this year and I will continue to do so through Godaddy. I also allow them to autorenew my domains and have never had occasion to doubt their integrity.

I am a devotee of this site and don't respond to many posts but felt that on this occasion I should because I believe that every consumer has a right to complain but likewise if a Business gives good service they should be commended.
Keep up the good work.
