I moved out of New York City at the end of April and haven't used the gym since then. I've called Gold's, emailed them. My caller ID shows calls from Gold's, but they never leave a voice message.

When I call them, I get transferred to somebody's voice mail, or I'm asked to leave a message, which I have done, and nobody ever returns my call.

The contract states membership can be canceled if member moves 50 miles away. I prepaid for two years, and I want a refund of the remaining months on my membership. My next step is to send a copy of my email to them certified mail, then if no refund results, I'll contact other agencies.

The thing is, I was a Gold's member in Tampa for ten years and they were always on the up and up. When I moved, they stopped the automatic withdrawals as I requested. Tampa's was a well managed gym.

only the first part of your response showed up--so it was taken out of context.

Actually, I liked gold's gym. (especially the one in Tampa) What I don't like is the difficulty reaching somebody there (Manhattan Gold's) when I'm trying to close my membership. Since I had prepaid in full, I didn't think it was necessary to go through the certified letter routine. Seems like they're trying to drag it out...holding on to my dues when I haven't been in there in months.

A Threat?

I was trying to be helpful. The reason being is that a gym tried to rip off my folks off by using that 50 mile radius crap. So I though I'd pass on a few words of wisdom. We worked it out by using an address 50+ miles away. I don't make threats. I make promises.

That sounds like a threat. Are you making a threat here?

Some of those gym contracts say you have to be more then 50 miles away from any of their gyms. Not that particular gym. I don't know what gold's contract says but if you're in Tampa now and they have a gold's there, you may have a problem. Give 'em an address 50+ miles away from their nearest. Check your contract. Good luck.
