My son was a high school football player and wanted to work out between the time school was out and when he left for college. He talked to golds gym. He brought home a contract and stated that even though the contract was for one year he was told that all he needed to do was to bring in a copy of his college schedule which is in another city and he could terminate the contract. I called and was told the same thing. I even emphasized that he would only be here for another 3 to 4 months.

Once he left for school I called and was told by the manager, Johnny, that I had to have a copy of the class schedule, a utility bill in his name (they are all in mine as I pay the bill) and a receipt from the University for payment. Since I paid by credit card and it would be a month before I had my statement , they would not terminate the membership until that time. In addition, once they get all this you have to pay for an additional 30 days plus a termination fee of 100 dollars.

When I explained that none of this was mentioned when I call the gym to inquire, he stated this was all in the contract and he could not control what his employees said to anyone. After reading all the fine print it was in the contract although there is no actual fee assigned to the termination fee.

There was also an initial fee of over $60 dollars to sign up. This has been a total rip off. Never again will I sign without reading the fine print.

The employee know how short the time was for our contract and misled us into believing that termination was not a big deal.
