I purchased a used car from this dealership in February of 2004, a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The cars are all "Carfax guaranteed", meaning that they checked with Carfax and the car is supposedly OK.

Since that time, I have spent over $1500 in car repairs, primarily to the AC system. But the big issue for me has been how the car handles. Several mechanics could not find anything wrong and that the car is properly aligned. I took it back to my family mechanic, who said the car had been hit and that there is frame damage, which explains the car handling poorly.

I recently contacted Good Carma on two occasions, and they will not respond to me. It seems to me that they feel that this is now my problem and I should have had a mechanic look at it. Well what about THEIR mechanic? How did he miss it? And if he didn't, why did they sell this car anyway?

It pains me because the owner is related to a friend of mine, who recommended them to me in the first place. Even he says I should go after them. All I want is for them to buy the car back at the payoff price, and take it off my hands. I'll get something a little more reliable.

Rick -

The "CarFax Guarantee" is a bit misleading. As far as I know, CarFax does not disqualify a vehicle from it's buy back guarantee because it has an accident on its record. From what I understand, a vehicle will be disqualified from the guarantee if it doesn't have a "clean" title history (i.e. salvage, flood, fire, etc.).

That being said, the buyback guarantee only applies if you purchased the report and registered for the guarantee yourself. In this case, CarFax would "buy" the car back from you. CarFax won't enforce this rule on a dealership. Now, you will want to puchase the CarFax for your Grand Cherokee and see if it qualifies for the buyback guarantee (it will be so noted at the beginning of the report). If it does, then the dealership did not mislead you in the statement they made (albeit a somewhat misleading advertisement to someone who is unfamiliar with CarFax). If you find that the buyback guarantee does not apply, then you have a case against the dealership.

At the very least, I find it unfortunate that the dealership did not disclose this information (if, as it would appear from your report, they claim to have their mechanic do an inspection before the vehicle is put up for sale). I hope this explanation helps a bit. Best of luck in resolving this issue.
