I received a call from an individual saying he is with Gotec Financial. He said they would give me a Visa or Mastercard with a limit up to $5000.

I asked what the catch was. He continued with his script, saying he knew my credit was bad and that they helped people with bad credit repair and maintain good credit.

I asked how much it would cost. He continued with his script, asking me if I had filed bankruptcy in the last 12 months, and other very professional sounding questions. He knew my mailing address.

He continued saying that I would soon receive a package listing the over 200 banks they work with and that I would choose the bank that would issue the card.

I wanted to know the terms of payment. He continued with his script, finally telling me it would be $219.90 for a lifetime membership fee. I laughed. When do I have to pay that? He said within the next 15 days.

I laughed again. I told him I was completely broke and would not have $219.90 until sometime in April. He told me that we should go ahead and set things up just in case I had the money by the 26th.

Then he asked for my current bank account information. I told him there was no way I was giving anyone my account information over the phone. I asked for the website. He said that was for customers only and I was not yet a customer.

He was very aggressive at this point, talking over me and insisting on getting my account information. I asked for the customer service phone number, and he explained that the computer would generate one once we had set up the account.

I told him again he would not get my information and if he continued to ask for it without a way of my independently verifying his company I was going to hang up. He continued with his script and I hung up the phone.

I had asked him to spell out the name of his company and he had, so I googled it and saw these ripoff reports. Too bad they are using a real company as a front, and more shame on them for scamming!

Never give anyone your bank account information over the phone.
