A named Jamie Larson with a heavy Indian accent (!) called me at work to offer me an $8000 grant. He provided me with a Florida address and a claim number for the grant. The he asked to give him my checking account number so they could processed the $249 processing fee for sending me the paperwork. When I refused to give banking information, he hung up. I am worried because I don't know how they got my phone number at work. There was a lot of background noises which told me that this could not be a government office.

BEWARE! No legitimate business would ask for your bank information over the phone.

If you have recently purchased ANY product from the internet (especially one relating to Government Grants) and receive a phone call like the one listed above, please contact the company from whom you purchased the product immediately.

Periodically, information sellers provide names and telephone numbers to telemarketing "licensees" in an effort to offer you goods or services that may enhance your original purchase or allow you to achieve the result you are looking for. If you receive a call like the one above- BEWARE! No legitimate business would ask for your bank information over the phone.

No agency of the government will give you a "grant" for which you did not apply. It is quite possible that there are rogue telemarketers who are stealing information that was originally provided for legitimate business reasons. The above is clearly a scam and an attempt to wipe out your bank account.

Let's help get these criminals out of circulation. Contact the company from whom you purchased your product as well as the consumer affairs bureau of your state.

Government, Federal, Words Used To Identify This Scam?

#3Consumer Suggestion

I have never received a call from this company or companies regarding Government grants (most likely because I am not only on the no call list, but I have unavailable/unknown caller call blocker on my home telephone), but I am wonder if the people doing the soliciting are identifying themselves as a Government agency? If so, isn't this something that should be reported to the Feds?
