When I worked there, there was a change in ownership. The new owner seemed nice enough, but boy was I wrong. He cut our health insurance, claiming it was too expensive. Then proceeded to get security cameras installed, new computers, a flatscreen tv for the waiting room, cable to go along with it, bought a 2000 dollar mascot…. if our health insurance is too expensive why can you do all this? The one girl, he cut hers while she was on temporary disability. He then very quickly reinstated it to cover his a**. Then the same girl that was on temporary disability he fired. When she asked why, he said you didn't do a few things. She then pulled out a paper proving she did those things. He got flustered and just threw his hands up in the air and said "I just want to get new management in here."
When all of this happened, literally the whole salon but one wanted to leave. We all found jobs at different Great Clips. I didn't want to loose my vacation time, so I thought about just taking a vacation, coming back to work for a few days, then quitting, but I wanted to leave on good terms. I was ***. Kevin (the owner) and Nicole (the manager) both assured me and another girl that we will get a payout check for ourvacation time. We agreed to finish out our two weeks.
I was then let go a week early. I am someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, so this was a devastating blow to me. I thought it would be ok, because my vacation time was coming to me. I was wrong again. The other girl was trying to get answers from both Nicole and Kevin, and they were ignoring her. I texted them both once to see what was going on, and Kevin told me t stop harassing him. Needless to say, we never got ourvacation time.
Since everyone that worked there left because of this poor ownership, he had to get stylists in there fast. Everyone that works there is straight out of beauty school. It's fine to hire a beginner, but every single person in the salon cannot cut hair to save their lives. They jacked up more haircuts in a month than the previous staff has in a year… and that's just what my new salon has heard about. The reason he hired girls that don't know what their doing is because they will put up with what he's doing.
It's also illegal to have more than one person with less than 3 years experience on. The way he handled the health insurance is illegal. He should have offered us cobra, and given us 30 days notice. And for the vacation time he promised us and we never received he's just a downright a**hole.
