3 Days to loose your money.

Hi,

I am another victim of the Great Expectations dating scam, this time in California.

A moment of weakness and sheer stupidity on my part means that I am out nearly $2000.

The part of the contract that has lost my money reads as follows.

YOU, THE BUYER, MAY CANCEL THIS AGREEMENT, WITHOUT PENALTY OR OBLIGATION, AT ANYTIME PRIOR TO MIDNIGHT OF THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT SELLERS THIRD BUSINESS DAY FOLLOWING THE DATE OF THIS AGREEMENT, EXCLUDING SUNDAYS AND HOLIDAYS. TO CANCEL THIS AGREEMENT, MAIL OR DELIVER A SIGNED AND DATED NOTICE, OR SEND A TELEGRAM WHICH STATES THAT YOU, THE BUYER ARE CANCELLING THIS AGREEMENT, OR WORDS OF SIMILAR EFFECT. THIS NOTICE SHALL BE SENT TO THE ADDRESS ABOVE.

What gets me is that apart from placing me on a FREEZE (a type of suspended membership) as I requested, no services have been rendered to me. This has got to as close as daylight robbery gets.

I can see that they are entitled to charge me a penalty, but every cent of my money, is completely outrageous.

I am now approaching my 30th day since signing the contract and I have lost a lot of sleep over it.

This is yet another example of where the laws of this country protect big companies at the expense of the people.

What has happened to consumer rights?

Please help to get this outrageous legal anomaly repealed or severely constrained, ordinary people are suffering right now because of this.

Michael

Bombard them, voice your dissatisfaction

#2Consumer Suggestion

Tue, January 28, 2003

The only way to reverse the charges are to relentlessly voice your dissatisfaction in as many available forums and complaint forms as possible. I'd recommend daily phone calls to your GE sales person, expressing your disgust in detail; weekly email and/or letter complaints to your state attorney general and department of consumer affairs; and standing complaints at the better business bureau. Copy all of your complaints to the company to let them know you are actively ratting them out. Don't relent. Write letters to your local/regional newspaper, explaining your plight, and again, copy the company. Find as many public forums as you can (this is a good one) to air your disgust. Smart potential consumers will take heed. The company will begin to recognize your name. If you are lucky or extremely diligent, they will pay you your fee to shut you up.
