Well where to start. I got a green dot about 2 months ago so I could purchase items from ebay without the hassle of money orders and waiting longer to get the items. So I get the nascar card that looks pretty cool. It was 15 bucks for the card when the regular ones are like 5 or 10. Okk no problem so I added 100 bucks to the card that day. They took money from my card before I ever got a chance to spend a dime. I didn't really keep up with it the first time I added money.

OK This time was yesterday.I added $ 55.00 and was going to pay my 35$ car insurance for this month. might i add getting the 55 on the card was actually 59.95$ because of the adding fee. Ok I came straight home and paid my insurance over the phone.

I came right in here and checked and when I should have had a 20.00$ balance, it was a 16.95 balance with a - 3.05$ beside it. Ok no problem probably some fee I didnt know about because it never said it on anything I read when I bought the card. Ok so I set out on my journey to work this morning with $ 16.95 on my visa. I go to Hardee's and spend 10 bucks for breakfast. I used the card. Ok now with 6.95$, after work I stop to get a pack of smokes for 3 bucks, insufficient funds.

Ok this sucks because I am now standing in a line of people at the convenience store embarassed because I now feel like a moron. I come home, logged on to check my account. my balance is now $1.25 with a - 9.15 beside it. So let me get this straight. I spent 59.95 yesterday to actually spend about 46 bucks. They made 14 bucks off of me in less than 24 hours. Imagine if I had added like 500$! Yes this is definitely a ripoff. I'm now enjoying my greendot card because I used it to make a few guitar pics, lol.

Does that mean you purchased the GreenDot card for $15 and then you added $100 to the card? The card actually costs you $14.90 in fees before you purchased any merchandise or services with the card.

According to GreenDot's fee schedule:
Activation Suggested Retail Price $9.95
Reload - at a Retailer with MoneyPak or swipe Suggested Retail Price $4.95 or Less

Login into your Greendot account to see the transaction history.

If you have a checking account, why not use your checking account's debit card?
I use my Bank of America Platinum Check Card (debit card with Visa symbol) everywhere for restaurants, groceries and gasoline purchases. My debit card is good for up to $3,500 in one purchase meaning I can buy up to $3,500 provided I have $3,500 or more in my checking account. I have never been charged a fee for use of my Check Card.
