I purchased a Green Dot card in Arizona in June 2013. After purchasing the card, I called the toll-free number provided to activate this card. I recieved an automated message stating that the card number I entered was invalid because the security coded did not match the card number provided.

Without an existing Green Dot account, you cannot speak with a customer service representative. To speak with an individual, I had to purchase and load funds on a second card. I finally reached somebody on the telephone. They asked that I fax a copy of the card front and back, copies of the reciept, and copies of my driver's license. I faxed the documents requested, minus my driver's license.

I scheduled a phone call-back with a supervisor, as they said it would take 3-5 business days to process the documents.. They never called back, so I called them, referencing the case number they provided me. I was told my case number was not recognized and that I would need to resubmit the documents, except this time instead of a copy of my drivers license, they also required a copy of my social security card front and back. I refused this documents and asked to speak with somebody who could properly assist me. The representative said she would schedule a corporate level representative to contact me by phone withing seven business days, and provided me a new reference number in case I needed to contact them for anything while I waited.

The corporate representative never called. I called the toll-free number again, and again provided a case number they told me to reference. There again was no record of my report. We were nearing a month after I purchased my card, and still nothing was being done. I was told this would be resolved in five business days maximum. I asked to open a new case, and speak with corporate immediately. If they would not call me, I would call them, I only needed a phone number to reach them. I explained that I have now been set behind nearly $500 waiting for them to figure this out, but nothing was being figured out. I continued to be brushed to the side.

I felt as if nobody cared. I have, as of February 2014, spent a total of over 140 hours on the telephone with customer service, to no avail. Today, 2/11/2014, the final representative advised me that my case has been closed, I would not be able to recieve a refund on my card purchase. The representative advised I "write it off as a loss while filing my taxes." When told I would be writing a negetive review, the representative said "You stupid Americans are all the same. You have nothing of value, so you rely on cash to fulfil you. Maybe learn a lesson from all of this. We don't care about your car payment. We have religion!"

I have never been rude to the representative, I never said anything to lead them to the conclusion that I love money or posessions, we have never spoke of religion. I believe I was truly please for the countless phonecalls and numerous hours I spent on the line with them. I don't know what to do, I'm at a loss, and still trying to catch up on my car payments.
