I bought one of those Pre-paid Visa credit card from this company, Green Dot, at Walgreens. It has been a total rip-off. They misrepresented themselves on more than one occasion.

It cost about $10 to purchase the card from Walgreens. This was in addition to the $20 I paid that was suppose to than be available for my use.

Next I called Green Dot to activate the card. I choose to move up to their Premier Card which cost $19.99 but as soon as I received my card would be rebated by $10.00.

Okay, I got my card and online it showed I had $10.00. The real problem started when I wanted to add money to my card (which is the reason I wanted one in the first place). I went to one of the stores listed as available to add money, CVS, but even though the clerk called Green Dot for instructions, she could not figure out how to do it.

I went back online to check again. You have to purchase a Money Loader Card which costs $4.95 and Green Dot charges you $5.92 each time you add money and a monthy fee of $4.95. I won't even go into the costs if you want to actually spend any money you possible had left on your card.

In my opinion the only one who benefits from having a Green Dot Visa Pre-Paid Credit Card are the Green Dot people.

I work for CVS who sells the Green Dot cards. Anyone who comes in asking about them, I advise them of all of the charges. The reload fees, activation fees, and not to mention the fees they charge each time you reload it. I cannot tell you how many customers have come in and said these people took money off their card before they even had a chance to use it the first time.

Most people buy one to get satellite, and then have to come back to add more because the company took funds off before they even had a chance to call for satellite. I hate this company and I wish we did not carry this card. A lot of people like it and I am not sure why.

I would suggest buying a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express Gift Card. It doesn't have your name on it so you have to be careful not to loose it, but they only charge the 3.95-5.95 activation fee and no other fees after that unless you buy a new card. You cant reload them and you have to buy a new one each time, but its better than paying tGreen dots crazy fees. GOod Luck!
