I bought a Green Dot Visa at a Walgreens. I paid the cashier $109.95. I put $100 on the card. It was 9.95 for the activation I guess because there was no card when I opened it. Then I found out that the card comes in the mail. I asked for a refund because I needed the card right then I couldnt wait. The cashier said they do not refund the money I would have to call the company. She showed me that the back of the paper said that all I had to do was activate it online and I would get a temperary acct # to use untill the card came in the mail. I went activate it on-line and at the end instead of an acct# I got an error message that said I had to start over.

I re-did this 5 times and got the same result everytime. So I tried the #800 and there is no way to get to a person. It asks you for your acct# (thats why I am CALLING!!)and then if you don't have that they want your S.S.# when I enter that in it says "Your acctount is still under review. Thank You and Good-Bye." And then hangs up on me. Under review? For What? It's MY money, not a credit aproval.

So I called back, same thing, and if you try Zero for the oppertator it says thats an invalid entry and hangs up on you. I went online to search for Green Dot Visa and I saw reports that I am not the only on this happen to. I am going to persue this untill something is done about it. No one else should have to lose their money to this. I do have one recommendation that has worked of me since this. Its buying the Visa GIFT card. They come in $25, $50, $100. You pay for the card thats in your hands, no acctivation it works right when you buy it and you have it in your hand. Its a one time use (meaning you can not refill it)

I do not see a rip off. Company website states card comes in the mail.

Briana,

If you could not wait for the Green Dot Visa in the mail and you needed the GDV right away, why not use cash for the intended purposes of the card? I have not seen the card in person, but I will try to look for it the next time I am in a Walgreens store to see if the packaging states that the card comes in the mail. I think Walgreens could not provide a refund because the money did not go to Walgreen's bank account but to GDV's bank account.
