Our home, financed by GreenTree, burned down 2 months ago. I purchased the insurance they offered, to be included in each monthly mortgage payment. After the fire, they continued to harrass me for payments, and were completely unsympathetic to the fact that we lost everything, including pets.

I received the insurance check, but after finding out that no one was going to cover the removal of the burned remains, I refuse to sign the check, (two party, they need my signature). They still are calling me on a daily basis, and the cost for the removal of the remains ranges from $3000-8000.

I found a remover for the $3000 and they still refuse to help, saying it is my responsibility, even though they purchased the insurance without that coverage. I do not have that kind of money, so now they are trying to foreclose on the burnt home.

I feel it is their responsibility to take care of this home, and that they are in cohorts with this insurance company. I wish someone would investigate. Why pay for insurance that does nothing but pay-off the loan for GreenTree. The removal of remains should be a required clause!

If you are with GreenTree, do NOT let them purchase the insurance for you and think you will be safe, it is a rip-off!

If you're not worried about your credit, and it sounds like GT may have already ruined it , like mine, just let the remains go back to GT in repo. It then becomes their home again and they then have no other choice but to pay for removal. They will probably continue to hound you for their fees and you may have to file ch. 7 bankruptcy to get out from under them, but it would be well worth it in the long run. A bankruptcy looks better on a credit report than an open dispute over repo or foreclosure which can go on for years, whereas a ch. 7 is over with in a few months and you are able to move on and try to rebuild your credit again. And ch. 7 will fall off your credit report after 10 years. Also keep records of EVERYTHING that happens between you and GT. Calls, payments, if any, and even letters. They are ruthless and will do as they please.

Sorry for your loss and hope that you are moving on now, no thanks to GT. There is life after repo and foreclosure and even devestating fire. Best wishes to you.
