We went to Cancun to use our time reserved at the Grand Mayan. We then attended a presentation on April 22, 2009 with our intent to get information about new things in the Groupo Mayan property. They set about to sell us an upgrade to their new Grand Luxxe facilities.

At the very beginning, we explained that we could not make any purchases because our life savings had been stolen by Allan (((REDACTED))) of Houston. When they found out that we owned several other timeshares, they explained a new alliance that they had with Wyndham to pay owners willing to give up their yearly space. They explained that the Wyndham payments and the quick sale of our other timeshares through the Wyndham sales office in Mexico would more than cover the cost of the upgrade. Reluctantly, we agreed. After reading the sales documents overnight, I wrote a note and called the sales office when they opened the next morning. Then, in a meeting on the morning of April 23rd with the salesman, Jack Legault, the note was given to him.

Jack Legault then promised that he would get documents to show everything is covered and that we would not have any problems or he would cancel the purchase. On April 28th, Jack delivered a letter from T. Johnson showing the compensation that we would receive by giving up our space. In a phone conversation with Mr. Johnson, he stated that our timeshares would be sold by his sales office in Mexico under a Wyndham alliance When we explained that we could not rely on sales through the internet - he agreed and again stated that the sales would be made in their sales offices in Mexico to wealthy Mexicans who wanted property ownership in the US to help them get visas.

When we returned home and immediately called the Resort Rentals-Mexico office as was asked by the Cancun sales office, we found out that all of their sales effort was made through the internet (conversations with two office people, Maria and Falcon). Also, the proposed agreements to rent our Grand Luxxe space and sell our timeshares clearly said that the sales would be made via internet and that there would be a single charge of $299 to do the listings. Again, there was misrepresentation because the Cancun sales office did not mention any such charge. We were told by the Resort Rentals-Mexico office that the charge would not occur until after we had agreed on the listing - something that we never did.

The resort itself seems very nice, the sales pitch, however, is pure high-pressure sales. The sales people are snakes, their only motive is greed. They have no concern for what is ethical and will “brow beat” you to make their money. It was not worth the free breakfast and $50.00 dinner coupon. When I finally got up to walk away from the table, Luis got in my face and began to argue with me, telling me I couldn’t leave until he said the presentation was over. I continued to walk away as I raised my voice at him. You would think that that would be the end of it, but they will continue to pass you to the next person for a “survey” which turns into another sales pitch…these people are shameless. If you agree to attend the 90 minute presentation you will regret it.Search online for Mayan Palace Timeshare Scams for other “horror stories”.

Thanks to your services and other means, Mayan Resorts International Sales has shown that their response to my complaints primarily was not properly done due to the fact that the salesman involved and the addressee of my complaint fax was taken ill with a heart attack and has not been in the office. They have agreed to cancel the upgrade purchase and to refund all monies involved. This is in keeping with my earlier evaluation of the Mayan Resorts in that they are an outstanding set of resorts with nothing but first class facilities and services. We have always been treated with respect and dignity and with courteous and well-trained staff. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stays over several years. We wish them the best.
