it was a terrible way to end a great vacation weekend in rocky point, aka Puerto Penasco. this restaraunt manager of "the point", in puerto penasco was very aggressive in trying to get us to sign up to go to the Mayan Palace Resort in Puerto Penasco.
we were aware it was going to be a business presentation. the food there was just fascinating. they then got down to business.
they presented this timeshare program to us to make it seem as if they had your best interests at heart, but that is the farthest thing from the truth. you will hear that the weeks that you don't use can be deposited in the "Resort Bank", so that you can be re-imbursed a thousand dollars for each unused week. you will hear absolutely nothing about the 5-Day cooling off period, which is reserved under Mexican Law so that you can cancel the contract.
2 days after signing, we realized what a horrible mistake that we had just made. The contract says that verbal agreements will not be honored, and that the company is in no way responsible for the purchase or renting of your weeks. We tried to call them and cancel. we were directed and re-directed to phone numbers and people that did not exist. In fact the address in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, does not exist. It has moved to Mexico City, but you will never hear that from them. All of the fax numbers do not exist. One of the accountants in the Member Services Department there at the mayan in rocky point, grudgingly told my wife to follow the instructions in The General Provisions Section paragraph 12.

Marina Village, dba "Mayan Resorts", are the most misleading of all.
Something must be done. Whatever you do, do not buy anything from these people. If you go to the web, you can find timeshares and see what the real worth of the ones you buy is.. If you buy from Mayan, you will automatically loose at least 50-60%, the minute you walk out the door.
I sincerely am totally disgusted with the misleading, and deception. That place is so beautiful, it sells itself. Why do they have to be so dishonest??

The resort itself seems very nice, the sales pitch, however, is pure high-pressure sales. The sales people are snakes, their only motive is greed. They have no concern for what is ethical and will “brow beat” you to make their money. It was not worth the free breakfast and $50.00 dinner coupon. When I finally got up to walk away from the table, Luis got in my face and began to argue with me, telling me I couldn’t leave until he said the presentation was over. I continued to walk away as I raised my voice at him. You would think that that would be the end of it, but they will continue to pass you to the next person for a “survey” which turns into another sales pitch…these people are shameless. If you agree to attend the 90 minute presentation you will regret it. Search online for Mayan Palace Timeshare Scams for other “horror stories”.

Unfortunately you got hooked into a Mayan Palace timeshare presentation; Mayan Palace is known for particularly hard sell tactics. ALL the transfer companies, car rental companies, etc. are OUTSIDE the airport. The people between Customs and the doors to the outside are almost all timeshare reps (couple of kids trying to make a few bucks hauling luggage for folks also). If you go back to the Riviera Maya do not stop or talk to any of these people until you get outside. If you feel you must be polite just say No gracias and keep walking with your eyes down or straight ahead. Most of them wear these really official looking uniforms and will tell you all sorts of lies, like how you have to show them your transfer papers, etc. Just ignore them and keep going

Mayan Palace is unfortunately, one of the resorts with the worst reputation regarding timeshares in Mexico. Im sorry you fell for this scam, next time, bBefore you purchase, you need to think carefully how you will use it in your life, and if you have the money to spend; take your time and dont make any commitments on your first visit. Also, dont forget to do an internet search on the company, and if the company is legit they will let you come back another day if you wish to make de purchase. We were able to talk to a very nice Gentleman at The Mayan Palace in Puerto Penasco. His name was Hugo. We were just able to make it under the 5 day cancellation period which is guaranteed under Mexican Law. (Profeco).
We were successful in obtaining a cancellation letter from him, being a VLO.
Also a refund for all monies placed on the timeshare.
My wife an I will definitely read all agreements more carefully next time. We were glad we could get this resolved in a timely and very professional manner.
