Gundlach is the Heating and Air Conditioning company that installed the Trane heat pump in my house in Spring of '06. Several months ago it stopped producing heat. I called them and they came out. After a couple hours they couldn't fix it and said they would come back the next day. The next day they said they fixed it, but I wasn't home to verify. I got home several days later only to find that they had not fixed it. Then I get a bill for $370. I called them and explained that I wouldn't pay the bill because they hadn't fixed anything. After a long discussion, I agreed to pay the bill if they sent someone back out to fix it, and I wouldn't get charged more than one more additional hour of labor. This was the agreement their Billing Supervisor, Linda Stevens, made with me. Well, they couldn't fix it again the next time they came out nor the time after that. The third day they came out they got it working. Several weeks later I get another bill. This time for an additional $913.30!!!

I called them and explained that I was only suppose to get charged for one more hour of labor. She (Linda) refused to honor that agreement. I asked to speak to her supervisor, but unfortunately the only person higher than her was the company's president, and her father, George Jones, and he was in a meeting. They said he would call me when he was available. Several days passed and no call. So I decided to write him a letter explaining the situation. I gave him my phone number and email address so that he could contact me. It's been several weeks, and the only response I've gotten is another bill. This time the bill had a $20 late fee.

What can I do?

Lack of knowledge of HVAC equipment systems operations, parts replacement and no regular professional service maintenance can create costly repairs to restore HVAC systems back to good working order. Our customer was only charged for the repair that corrected the malfunction in his system.

Mr. Jones, President of Gundlach Plb & Htg Company, did not speak directly to this customer, he did return the phone call and left a message for the customer.

After completing any work, the technicians will make small talk or sit in your driveway until the time they've spent there crosses an hour mark so they can bill you for the additional hour. I've seen this twice now. I've actually gotten a bill for three hours of labor when the guy was in my house for 42 minutes. Yes, I timed him. Apparently they also charge you an additional amount of labor hours for driving time rounded up to the nearest hour. It's just despicable. I understand companies need to make money, but I am absolutely speechless with the way this company does business.
